My VCR not recording after the switch to digital tv signal

I have an older Sharp VCR Model DC-H810 that I connected to a brand new Sony Bravia Model KEL-32L5000 TV that I just bought in May 09. Everything worked fine before the transition to digital TV signal. Howvever, two days after the digital transition took place, my VCR did not record anymore. Instead I get a message indicating that my TV is not configured properly. I also noticed that my TV now picks up channels NOT as whole numbers but with decimals, i.e.: 4.1 instead of 4. Thanks for any feedback in advance!

The answer to this question can get a little complicated. Lets tackle it in two parts. First the last part; the part about picking up channels as decimals. With analog TV transmission, it took the full television broadcast channel to transmit one standard definition TV program. The newer digital transmission system uses some advanced video compression and audio compression technology to reduce the data needed to transmit the pictures and sound which allows the same bandwidth to deliver either High Definition Television programming or MULTIPLE channels of Standard Definition programs. So in your example above, you use to watch one channel of programming on TV channel 4, but now the TV station can broadcast multiple channels of programming on channel 4, sot they delineate the programs with a decimal point. So 4.1 it the first program on TV channel 4, 4.2 it the second program on TV channel 4..... Well, I hope you get the idea.

Now for the hard part of your question. I believe that before the transition, even with your new digital TV, you were still enjoying the analog broadcasts from your stations. Your VCR picked them up and recorded them and your digital TV could tune them in and you watched as you had always done in the past. After the transition you noticed that your VCR could not record anymore and your digital TV had discovered the digital channels that replace the analog channels. To remedy this situation, your VCR will need the aid of a DTV converter box to tune channels, and you may have to reconfigure the way your TV and VCR are connected. The best resource that I can give your for the reconnecting is the website http://www.fcc.gov/cgb/consumerfacts/converterbox_vcr.html. I hava psvr71 vcr and a new Sharp Asquos tv and I cannot get the vcr to record. It will play back but not record.

The VCR doesn't have a digital tuner. It has an analogue tuner. So it won't pick up the digital TV transmissions. You need a Freeview box connected to the house aerial system, and then connected to the VCR by a SCART lead. Put the VCR on one of the AV channels so it "sees" the signal from the Freeview box as a predicament for its own tuner.

Some older TVs had a video out function. This no longer applies to new TVs.

Digital programing

By the look of it you would need to connect a digital set box to it to record any TV programs, seeing that most countries are switching off or have switched off analogue TV. The video would then pass any signal it had recorded via a scart lead to any TV with one of those sockets.

How to record to my Sony SLV830 VCR from Sony Bravia 32" after digital switchover

You can't really record from the TV while watching something else. The only way to do that is to have two tuners. What you would need to do is get another converter box and connect that to the VCR, via the second VCR socket. But as you have a Satellite box, you will need to find a scart switching box like the one shown below (try Amazon for them).
This will allow you to connect all your items to the one TV.

Hi,can I record digital transmissions on my sony slv-se820g vcr barry

You can record a digital TV signal on a VHS VCR but only in analog format. The digital signal must be input to the VCR by some component which has a yellow composite video output and a white audio output such as a digital cable TV box or satellite receiver. For over-the-air digital TV, either the TV must output analog video or you need a DTV converter box connected to the VCR. Bottom line, the digital signal must be converted to analog for the VCR since VHS VCRs generally are analog recorders.

I have a new digital tv in which i use an antenna to watch it. i hooked up the vcr to it but i cant get it to record the tv show i want recorded.

Your VCR most likely does not have a digital TV tuner. Therefore you must supply a digital TV input signal so you can record it. Unless your TV has a composite video output, you would need another box, namely a digital TV tuner/converter which would connect to the VCR's input. Select the channel to record on the tuner/converter and select on the VCR the input where the tuner is connected.

How do I record a tv program with a Sharp A400 VCR? Videos will play on the tv, but I was not able to get it to record. Thanks.

Your VCR is no longer capable of recording "off air" tv signals. All tv stations are now broadcasting in digital format, your VCR is analog only. You can however get a digital converter box that will receive "off air" digital signals and convert them for recording on your VCR. CLICKING HERE will give you all the information you need to hook up the converter box... Good Luck!
