Jammed short shank drill bit in ring grabber drill driver

Switched long shanked phillips drill bit to shortest shenk bit on a Craftsman cordless drill driver, on which lifting the ring up releases the drill bit and dropping it locks it in place. This short shank drill bit left very little philips head exposed to drive with, and I want to get it off but lifting, dropping, and turning the ring has not released the short shank bit. I tried grabbing it with plier and lifting the ring but can't get a grip on the philips head. Tried little magnet... Any answers or suggestions?

SOURCE: I have a 18 Volt

oh I hate when that happens. ushally its due to not being lined up right inside the unit. happens with my cheaper drills more so then not.

I ushally just secure the bit into my vice, and then tap the the key with a hammer to loosen the threads..

sounds like she might need a bit of oil I ushally use air compressor oil just a couple drops work for me.

SOURCE: chuckless drill stuck tight with drill bit in

if you trap the chuck in a bench vice or alike and then use the drill in reverse in short bursts until it loosens a good spray with wd40 will also aid the situation

Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly,

Look at this link

http://home.comcast.net/~jaswensen/machines/drill/drill.html (I verified that the link works.)

paying attention to the slider (Item 37) in the picture just a bit more than 50% down the page. Yuo will have to slide the slider in place and then use an Allen Wrench to remove the old chuck.

Sometimes you have to use a hammer and a chisel on the OLD chuck to turn it enough to loosen.
To me the chisel is the tool of last resort but you can use it to rotate the old head CCW. The hard part is preventing the motor from rotating while you use the chisel.

Thanks for choosing FixYa,
Kelly

How do you insert a drill bit?

Grasp the ring at the nose of the drill. It has knurling around it. Pull it forwards and insert an impact rated driver bit or hex shank drillbit. Let the bit slide into the recess until it bottoms out. Release the knurled ring. You should hear the little keeper bearings spring back into place. Your toolbit should now be captive so you can go to work.

How do i insert bit in cordless dewalt keyless hex chuck?

It only accepts 1/4" hex shank bits and nut drivers. Mine just pops in and to release it, you push the black collar around the bit down. Cannot put round end bits in it. Only hex shanks

How do i put a drill bit?

An impact driver won't work very well as a drill. In fact it will probably break drill bits in anything but very soft material (like drywall). A drill bit needs a smooth continuous motion, because it cuts continuously as it turns. An impact driver turns with a staccato motion.

Can't get broken hex bit out

what you need to do is remove the quick release mechanism. there is a retaining ring DO NOT STRETCH then a small flat washer and spring lift the collar and there are usually 2 small steel balls. then using a magnet you should be able to remove bit. this works only if the shank on the bit is not twisted.

Ryobi impact drill compatibility with normal drill bits

Round bits are not compatible with the Ryobi impact drivers. You need the hex shank "quick connect" bits and accessories. There is an adapter available. it is basically a regular style of keyless drill chuck with the quick connect hex shank that should fit right in to your Impact.

How do you change the drill bit for a Ryobi?

My husband explained this, via phone ..... made it simple....... grab the silver ring area beneath the black top area where the drill bit is located. Hold the silver area firmly, while you twist the black top. You will see the release, then remove drill bit. Laymen's terms, but it worked!!
