SOURCE: canon powershot SD 100 - I can't see anything but a black screen

This problem is caused by a stuck shutter assembly. Normally the shutter is open which allows light to enter the image sensor and show you the live preview you see on the screen. When you take a picture the shutter closes which allows the image sensor to record what was seen at the exact moment the shutter closed. The shutter is stuck closed, causing the image sensor to always be in the dark. These shutter assemblies are extremely small and delicate. The miniature parts can become jammed with just the slightest bit of oil or contaminant, or the slightest misalignment of components. The problem can sometimes be fixed by gentle tapping of the camera on a solid surface. If you are going to try this be VERY careful, and do not tap the camera on the buttons, lens, or battery door. If this does not solve your problem then the camera is going to have to be taken apart and the shutter cleaned and reset to allow free movement. This repair costs $125 to $145.

I have the PS S500. It will not take pictures now, it flashes, but there is nothing on the playback. In fact, when I look at the image before taking a pic, there is nothing there. Sort of like there is...

is the screen displaying anything at all? if not have you tried looking into the viewfinder? occasionally cameras with viewfinders will display pictures on in the viewfinder and not the screen.
Try taking a photo and then check to see if the photo is there on a computer.
other than this, the camera unit inside the camera may have become damaged or detached, it this is the case, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do

Can I remove histogram which apears on screen when taking a photo? It is distracting!

While the histogram can be distracting, it can be very useful to ensure that your image is well composed and the lighting is good.

To remove the histogram, put the camera in video or picture taking mode, press the up arrow (disp) key to cycle through three different display types: Histogram + indicators on (where you are now), nothing but the picture (where you want to be) and picture with indicators. Indicators include battery charge state, image quality, etc. Not needed while taking pictures, but nice to be able to take a look.

See page 33 of the manual for your camera.

Can't get a picture on the screen - just shows black. When we turn the camera on the LCD screen displays the function choices and menu options, but will not display any image. If we take a picture using...

Check the SD card, they have sliders on them which lets you "lock" the card so nothing can be put on or taken off of it. Make sure that is off. Then go through the menu on the camera and try to format the card again. If the card is bad it should give you an error message when it tries otherwise you should be good :)

Canon rebel, digital EOS

Welcome to the world of Digital SLRs.
There is nothing wrong with the camera. This is how an slr camera works. you don't get to compose the image on the display, you do it through the view finder. you then get to see the image a short time after it's taken. the duration can be changed in the settings.
you then press the right arrow button. one above dustbin on left. to see all the pictures you've take.

hope this has clarified things for you.

LCD Display Blank

I have a sony cybershot DSC-S650, the LCD was very dark and could not see anything except if I pointed it at a bright object, everything else worked ok. I could take pictures but could barely see them in playback as well.

I took it to Sony authorised repair outlet and was told the CCD was damaged, they charged me USD $55 to repair it (in Quito, Ecuador)
