Correct. The 5200 works with SD cards, 2GB or smaller. It will not work with higher-capacity SDHC cards.

You should have no trouble using the SDHC cards. SDHC stands for Secure Digital High Capacity. The images should load directly from camera to computer, without the need for any additional hardware.

SOURCE: Nikon D40 Memory Card Error

Hello. Make sure the write-protect switch on the SD card is in the UP (nearer to the contacts) position. Try the card in an SDHC capable reader on your computer first. Note that the SD card can only be inserted one way - make sure you're not putting it in upside-down! If the computer recognizes the presence of inserted card (whether it can read it or not), format it at FAT32. When finished, remove properly (icon in system tray) and insert into your D40 slot, WITH THE CAMERA OFF!! Turn on the D40, and if it now recognizes the SD card, FORMAT it again, in the camera. Good luck.

I'm sorry but you can't use the camera as a webcam. Here is why. There is no function on the camera to stream video.
Also, the camera goes into standby mode after 30 seconds (by default). And 3 minutes after that, it shuts off completely. It does that to save batteries. Again. I'm sorry. Good webcams average between $20. to $50. usd and they are made to work 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

You can use a 4GB memory card in your camera, as long as it's an SD card.

If you get that message, it means you haven't formatted the card for use in that camera. You have to format the card in the camera before you use it.

Even though the solution was not what you prpbably wanted, don't let it stop you from rating it a fixya. I would appreciate it. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, and thanks for coming to FixYa.

SOURCE: Will my Coolpix 5600 use SDHC SanDisk cards?

Sorry to say, but . . . No!

Cnet Reviews shows the specifications on your camera.
2167fde.jpg It only goes so far as SD memory, which is limited to 2GB.
It's a hurdle technology manufacturers had to jump, and now consumers must jump also.

SOURCE: Nikon coolpix 2100- out of memory- After installing 4gb CF card

4GB requires FAT32. Camera firmware only supports FAT16. 4GB won't work because FAT16 has a 2GB maximum size limitation. 1GB CF card is Nikon's "approved" maximum for this camera.

Catch: 22 1GB -and lesser capacity- CF cards are no longer manufacturered or generally available in 2010. When the current CF card dies, the still working camera also becomes throwaway unless you can source a CF card 1GB or under. 2GB may work, but with 'issues' per caution below.

CAUTION: Anecdotal evidence suggests the final release -& current- firmware for cameras of this generation is also encumbered by with a maximum picture number limitation of 999, realistic at the time of original manufacture when 256MB was a the largest capacity CF card but completely nonsensical now.

Summary: This is my first NIkon Digital camera and also my last.

Apart from the noteriety of the ubiquitous broken Nikon plastic battery latch, a major design flaw Nikon refuse to acknowledge or accept liability to rectify -since self-repaired better than OEM, Nikon policy on firmware support is complete abandonment of product within an unacceptably short service window. ie: a deliberate poilicy of enforced obsolescence.

Suggested Problem Remedy: Do buy a new camera supporting SD Cards of current capacities. Don't buy anything branded Nikon.

Nikon B500 camera. I put a new memory card in my Nikon B500 and the camera says 'card not present'.

Is it this type of card?

The B500 is compatible with SDHC and SDXC cards. That means you can use cards from 4GB all the way to the largest cards currently available. (at that time 128GB)

And is it less than 128GB?

Your Nikon Coolpix B500 Digital Camera is compatible with 16GB, 32GB, 64GB and 128GB SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards.

Have a nikon coolpix S8100 with a 4gb card. My hp photosmart 7960 reads "error reading card" when trying to upload pictures. I have no problems uploading my old memory card from my cannon A95.

The 7960 works with SD cards. It does not work with SDHC cards such as your 4GB card.

SD cards max out at 2GB. While SDHC cards are physically identical, they are electronically incompatible and will not work in devices not designed for them.

The L4 and its software will work with any size SD cards. Make sure you get SD cards, not SDHC cards. SD cards go up to 2GB, while SDHC cards start at 4GB and go up.

Why my 4GB SDcard can not work at my NIKON coolpix 5900

There are no 4GB SD cards. "SD" cards larger than about 1GB are actually SDHC cards. SD and SDHC cards fit the same slots, but they are slightly different electrically. Many cameras won't work with SDHC (high capacity) cards. SDHC is not backwards compatible.

My Nikon Coolpix P3 camera is not accepting my 4GB, SDHC San disk card?

The P3 works with SD cards, not SDHC cards. While SDHC cards will fit into the slot, they are electronically incompatible and won't work. You need to go with SD cards, 2GB and smaller.

I Purchased a new SDHC card from Argos which was 4 GB as the one that came with my Nikon coolpix 3700 is a 16mb I put this new one into my camera and the camera showed that you couldn't use this card,...

Your camera will accept a maximum SD card capacity of 1GB. It simply isn't capable of handling anything of a larger capacity and in particular is incompatible with the more technically advanced SDHC cards.

Your fix is to either replace your camera with a later model or to stick to using SD cards with a maximum 1GB capacity.

Nikon Coolpix 5900/4 GB Kingston SD Card

The 5900 uses SD cards. The 4GB card you have is actually an SDHC card and will not work in the 5900. You'll have to stay with cards 2GB and smaller.

PURCHASE THE PNY 4GB MEMORY CARD

I have the same problem with the card, my cannon camera, and my gateway laptop. From what I've learned in the past ten minutes, the card is SDHC and my devices are not. The card is not able to dumb down and I am returning it to Best Buy. The HC in SDHC is the issue from my best guess. Similar to you cannot play PS3 games on PS2. I hope this helps anyone else.

Coolpix 5200 + 4GB SD card

Any size SD card will work. The capacity limit is with the card, not the camera. All the camera does is serve as a recorder/reader for the card.
