Verbatim memory stick can't unhide files

A folder on my memory stick shows all files greyed out, with the property "hidden" checked. If I go to "sharing and security", then all files and folders on the drive are marked readonly. If I unset this, it comes back next time I open it. But in any case, I can write to the folders, so it's lying. If I copy the file to another folder it retains the "hidden" attribute. How can I modify the files so that I can rewrite or update them?

On properties on filing system go to view files and unhide files this will un hide every file on the computer so don't change the system files that are hidden, find the files that you are looking for and go into properties of the file and change them to un hidden. and press ok this will make them unhidden after you have done this to all files you need put the filing system back to original way your files will be seen but all hidden files will be back hidden.

SOURCE: computer

for neerajay.. from what i understand, you cant find your files, so there must be some one that has deleted your data or you forgot where you left it

for both of you.. to find something, try using the search option from the start menu..
if you dont remember the name of the file but know the extension, type in *.doc to find word documents.. *.jpg to find pictures..
then, the results must show something that you can use to get your info back

SOURCE: show hidden files

you should be able to click to open folder options, click the
"view" tab, and under advnced settings, click show hiden files
and then click OK. Don't do this on a web browser--you have to
do it from a Microsoft program.

I have a Verbatim external hard drive...it says that I only have 2.4 gigs available but there is nothing on the drive that I can see...how do I wipe it clean and start over? I am using a brand new Macbook...

The problem with using these external hard drives or flashdrives, they're easily infected with viruses. Some forms of virus infections among flash drives and hard drives are the following: hides your files and folders, creates exe file extensions of your files and even corrupt your files. And later on infecting your PC.

1. Sometimes this infection can be solved by:

  • Going to Windows Explorer
  • Tools menu
  • Folder Option
  • View Tab
  • Choose "show Hidden Files and Folders".
  • If the files will show up, simply change the properties of the files/folders. Uncheck the "hidden" checkbox and the files will show again just like before.

2. If the above doesn't work, and your files are still hidden, do this one that will surely work.

  • Go to the command prompt.
  • Go to the drive where your hidden files are located.
  • Type the following: attrib -s -h /s /d *.* (this will unhide all your files that have been hidden by the virus) i.e. I:\> attrib -s -h /s /d *.*

There you go, a quick and easy way on how to unhide hidden files caused by a virus in your computer.

I scan memory card with quick h antivirus and all the files in the card automatically showing hidden and even not showing on computer in hidden form too..i check it with x plore, it shows all files but...

This is a common problem. Some antiviruses take the data as a threat/virus, and place them in a seperate hidden folder and changes their extensions (extensions are the file types e.g MP3, JPEG, etc) so that they are no longer accessible. I'd advise you to connect it with your computer. Then go to the TOOLS tab in your upper part of the computer window. Select Folder Options and choose "SHOW HIDDEN FILES" Im sure you'll be able to see those files. Unhide them by changing their PROPERTIES, and restore their extensions simply by typing in the previos extension using the RENAME option of your computer. I hpe this solves your problem If not, you may clarify your complaint and mail me at : [email protected]

Hi I have a memory stick that is no longer showing the files on it that I could see yesterday. Something happened last night to it that it stopped showing the files, which I need. Is there a way to...

Hi usually data do not be recover from dead flash drive but please try this option:
  • Be prepared beforehand

Installing any software after data loss will increase the risk of the lost data being overwritten. A recovery program installed now is good insurance for your data.

Free recovery software. There are many good free recovery programs out there. Installing one now may be the difference in keeping and loosing valuable data.

    Commercial recovery software

Commercial recovery software will increase the chances of recovering important data. It's not free but can be well worth the price.
  • Step 2What to do

Use your system as little as possible until you recover all of your lost files.

The more activity taking place on your hard diskmag-glass_10x10.gif, the greater chance that some of your lost data will be over written. If you are trying to recover files from a media card, stop using that card immediately.

All the pictures i had have disappeared and my memory card says no images! when i tried to get them processed it just kept counting up images to over a thousand..

Hi. The most probable cause for this problem is a virus. Your memory card might be infected and the virus might have hidden your files. You can check this by scanning the memory card using an updated antivirus, then unhiding all hidden files. To do this (after scanning the memory card), open Windows Explorer, go to "Tools >> Folder Options >> View" On the advanced settings, Hidden Files and Folders option, click the "Show hidden files and folders" button. Uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types". Click OK to save the settings.
Now go to your memory card via "My Computer" or Windows Explorer to view the files (images). You can unhide them so they may be accessible again.
    Hope this helps.
