There is no defrost timer on a GSH25JSXBSS Can you provide an actual freezer temperature? Feel the base of your ice maker to see if possibly the heating element is staying on after dropping the ice into the ice bin and look for the ice maker to see if excess water is flowing into ice bin once it refills. Are other items defrosting in the freezer due to extended defrost? I am here should you need me, Thanks John Tripp Appliance 911

Testimonial: "That makes alot of sense. the food is frozen temp was about 0. there is a thin layer of ice on food in freezer side and ice bin was solid chunk of ice"

Check the ice dispenser door to make sure that it's closing all the way once used. That will cause these problems as much or not more if stuck open. I thought I had already post this possibility....JT

I need to know how to remove the ice maker compartment to throw out all old cubes.

Hello Karla Shelton,

A wee little ice can LOCK your ice bin in place!!

How to remove the bin would depend ENTIRELY on
the MAKE & MODEL of your refrigerator...

They key to success... BE GENTLE... even if the freezer
has a solid grip (frozen in (more common on door bins)).

If it is stuck good & solid... BEFORE you decide
to take a PRY, Crowbar or WRECKING BAR to your
ice-bin... think soft breakable "PLASTIC"...

BETTER to DEFROST your entire refrigerator
than to break that bin.

Check your parts/spares retailers to see if it is even
POSSIBLE to REPLACE...

Never use a HEATER on the soft plastics.

Patience & care...

Make sure the bin is clean & dry before putting it back.

Hope this helps.

Hai this is arun from oman.. i want to know how to

Check the defrost timer is operating and that the defrost heat element is working, usual cause of ice build up in most units, you may want to get an electrician to do it coz one wrong move it WILL kill you. Good luck.

The deforst timer didn't work and got ice

Does the timer move? If you can, try rotating the timer to the defrost postion when the frigorator turns off and see if the defrost emement starts to heat up. If it doesn't then you could have a bad thermostate. easy to replace.

Melded mass of ice in bin

The only thing I can offer is to limit the out put of the machine closer to what your needs are.Or bag the ice and store in a freezer. The ice pushing down while melting is what is causing the BIG FREEZE. The bin for storage may be too big for your needs, at least at the time you write this. When the demand goes up (warmer weather) the ice would be used more and the pressure pushing down will alternate as well as people getting scoops out more often this will help prevent such a freeze up in warmer weather.
