Have just purchased a Casio se-c3500 cash register and thought I had successfully programmed the departments but when I press a department button the till just beeps at me and nothing happens. It prints off each department with its name (Pot of Tea etc) as I go into the department setting but doesn't seem to register it on the reg setting. Help!

Turn key to program.

That should allow you a post receipt.
To set dept names:
Turn key to program.
2 SUBTOTAL
Department number
05
SUBTOTAL
Type new name
CASH
SUBTOTAL
If it gives an error when pressing CASH, then repeat, but press 00 button before CASH (some models need this).

I don't have this particular cash register, But I took a look at the manual and I recommend the following:
A. Turn the cash register off.
B. Unplug it.
C. Remove the batteries.
D. Wait at least five minutes.
E. Initialize the cash register. This procedure was copied from thwe manual:
In order to operate the cash register properly, you must initialize it before operating for the first time. Follow this
procedure.
1. Insert the manager (MA) key into the mode switch and turn it to the REG position.
2. Insert the plug of the AC power cord into the AC outlet. The buzzer will sound
three times.
IMPORTANT: This operation must be performed without batteries installed.
3. The cash register has now been initialized. The register display will show
"0.00" and then “NO BATTERY”.
If the buzzer does not sound when the plug is inserted, the initialization has not been done
successfully. (This will occur when the voltage is high because you operated the cash register
before starting initialization.) Wait at least one minute after pulling out the plug and insert the plug
again.
