There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but I’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
it not only supports XP, 2000, and NT, I have personally tested it with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate. It works perfectly to reset any local user account to a blank password
You can use the ISO to burn a boot CD. Follow these instructions:
1. Download ISO file from http://www.windowspasswordsrecovery.com Windows Password Recovery Tool
2. Burn to a CD using a CD burning tool such as Nero or Roxio or MagicISO
3. Insert CD into drive and reboot.
4. You may have to select an option in the BIOS to get the computer to boot from the CD.
Booting up and clearing a password takes a minute or two works like a charm.

The best way to do this is using the Offline NT Password & Registry editor.
You can download it at the following link: http://pogostick.net/~pnh/ntpasswd/
This utility will enable you to reset the password of any user
that has a valid (local) account on your Windows NT/2k/XP/Vista
etc system.
The link above includes some directions on how to use this utility.

contact Acer or Gateway, ask if there is a jumper reset
SOURCE: i forgot my password for my administrator account
If you're using windows 7, use the recovery cd or fix windows and choose cmd. usually, in windows 7, the administrator account is locked although it seems that the current user is the administrator, actually it's not.
then, type "c:" without quote and hit enter to enter the windows installed partition.then, type "net user administrator /active:yes" without quote then hit enterthen it should say the command completed successfully. Then, restart your laptop and enter normal mode. Just then you can change the password for previous account.
if that's not possible, recover all your data to external hard disk, secondary drives or secondary partition for ease of access, delete previous account and create a new one. that should solve the problem.
