I have an earthlink internet modem that i cannot connect

Try removing the splitter, if it works then you might have a faulty splitter and you need to get it replaced. You might check if you are using the first phone jack in your house / apartment. I remember that was key when i was on DSL. Hope you get it sorted out, not having a working connection is very annoying.

Earthlink is not your local telephone company? You would need to contact your local service provider. If earthlink set up your DSL thru your local telephone company, you may have to have them contact them. Does your local phone to you or do you subscribe thru what they call a CLEC?

Connect your Earthlink Modem's RJ45 connector to your router's RJ45 WAN connector. The router should then provide wireless internet to other computers via their wireless cards.

maybe you have to wait for your provider for them to isolate the problem, it seems that your modem got hit maybe by high surge. ask them to bring a spare modem for isolation.. there is no way for you to isolate the problem coz you've already done the basic....

I would reinstall earthlinks software and if that did not work , I would replace the Modem.

If you are able to send and recieve emails then your dial-up modem is working. For some reason your "Earthlink Browser" is looking for a high speed connection,(like DSL or Road Runner cable). Easiest step to take would be to re-install your Earthlink dial-up software program, but remove existing program under "Control Panel" (Add or Remove Programs).

Does your mac book has a phone port? You can try that to setup a dial up connection an see if it will work.

There are no ports to open on the DCM425, as it's a cable modem, not a firewall. Earthlink/Time Warner will likely not be truthful when it comes to blocking ports on their end. Would it be possible to change the port that your PS2 is using?

Same goes for the bittorrent question, only I'd switch to uTorrent and different ports as well.
