SC541 - SC-555

These codes mean you are having a problem with your fusing unit. The section of your copy machine that has to heat up before you can make copies. It runs at a pretty high temp because it has to melt the toner and press it into the paper as the copy moves through the machine. Depending on the code, your machine is either taking too long to warm up or it is overheating.

The most common reason is a build up of hard crusty toner on the temperature sensors. This tricks the machine into not seeing your fuser warm up fast enough. Most of the time you can reset this and continue to use the machine but expect the code to come back down the road. You can also get codes if the room the copy machine is in is too cold when you start up the machine. Either a cold winter day or even a summer day in a room too cold from air conditioning.

Some machines require you to enter a service code to reset a fuser/fixing unit error. Some only require you to enter the service mode, then turn the machine off / on using the main power switch. The main power switch is the one you have to rock to the off and rock back on, not the little button you press for power to come on.
To enter the service mode press the following keys in order:
Clear modes
1
0
7
then press and hold the stop key
You will see the display screen change. At this point turn the machine off / on to reset the code.
If your machine does not have an LCD display screen you should have seen the copy quantity
display change to a flashing zero.

Some machines will need to add a step to the above instructions.
Once the LCD screen changes, select the "SP Mode" selection from the touch screen.
Enter 5810
This is the Service Program (SP) that resets Service Codes (SC-###)
You will either have to select 1 to accept or select the touch screen button to activate this SP.
After you do, turn the main power off / on to reset the code.

If you try this and the code still comes back on, you have an electrical or mechanical problem that you will need to call a service company to repair. The reason for making this code so hard to reset is a safety issue. If there is a short in your fuser unit it can cause your machine to over heat and possibly cause a fire. There are thermistors (temperature sensors) and thermostats (temperature fuses) that will keep your fuser from overheating. If either of these devices are worn out, you will not be able to reset the code and will need to have your fuser serviced.

Try to go into service mode to reset the code...
Clear yellow botton

7
then press and hold the red stop botton till the display changes and then turn the main Power switch Off then back ON... You do not have to do any thing in service mode, just get to that display.... Don't change anything unless you know what you are doing. sc546 has to do with the fixing unit. You may be able to reset it.

Fault SC546

SC-546 is "Warm-up" error, suggests that the fuser is NOT reaching 160' within standard warmup time.

You might be able to take out the fuser, remove fuser cover, remove carbon buildup from thermistor.

I had to change our fuser at 180,000 copies (service is at 120,000)
