You could have a defective screen - a defective inverter or a CCFL lamp.
To determine if you have a LCD screen or video card problem, read this and follow the instructions.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display or appear black.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

This could mean two things: a problem with the cmos battery or the motherboard itself. Try to remove the cmos battery first and install. If not, then replace the cmos battery.

Hi my inspiron 1545 boots up and aks for a password. It will not let me go into f12 or f2 settings. when I type in anything at the requesting password screen I do not see anything being typed and then

you need to remove the cover of the laptop locate the password jumper.(near the hard drive, clearly labelled.) take what looks like a little cap off. push the power on button for three seconds. replace cap close laptop, replace cover, and your password will be reset. leave it blank, do not do this with laptop a/c power cord plug into wall socket.

Cannot remember password on Windows 7

Hi seeker7even...

Try this solution to your problem.
Start your computer
1. Keep pressing "F1,F2 or F8" as the laptop computer starts.(Depending on your computer)
This will start the computer in Safe Mode.
2. When the window "Advanced Boot Options" opens, choose "Safe Mode" with arrow key and confim by pressing the Enter key, then PC enters the Safe Mode.
3. Once you are in the Safe mode Click "Administrator" on the Windows login screen.
Take note that you have set the Administrator password before, you need to input the changed password instead of leaving "Password" field blank.
4. Then click Start > Control Panel > User Accounts > Select the account that is locked and change the password.
5. Restart laptop and login into the account you just created using your new password.
Please take time to rate me thumbs up

My hard drive in my 1545 inspiron is shot. I am getting a code of 2000-0146, a harddrive error. should I reinststall the OS and start over or do I need to buy a new harddrive. I can't even run safe...

If you can get to your BIOS settings, change the hard drive settings from SATA to AHCI SATA and see if does anything for you. If not, then the hard drive needs to be replaced. Any 2.5" SATA drive will work. You will need to re install your OS, drivers, and all when or if a new drive is installed. If you have a back up CD it shouldn't be hard, but you are going to loose any data that you had saved.

My brother has a Dell Inspiron 1545, running Windows 7, that he got this past Christmas. It will no longer boot. I get past the Dell logo to a blank screen, but in the top left hand corner is a blinking...

Usually you would use the OS installation disk to get into restore mode (be careful, you don't want to accidentally delete everything by reinstalling the OS).

It should still be under warranty!!! So if I were you, and if you need a little hand holding, call Dell Customer support at 1-877-293-1197. Have your model number, serial code (usually somewhere on the bottom of the laptop), and setup disks for that computer handy before you call them.

They may walk you through a few procedures to try first before resorting to restore mode, but just be patient with them.

Hope this help you. Let me know how it turns out.

I am unable to get into the Safe Mode on my Dell Inspiron 530 desktop computer (running vista). I tried F8 during start up but it did not do anything, the only screens I am able to get to is the F12 boot...

You have noticed what is written, not always what happens.

If you are able too run, through setup, click on help &support.

Search box, type in Safe Mode. Follow instructions.

F8 is the key, when starting up keep clicking the key as the poota wakes up, it should give you a choice menu for you access up/down with arrow keys?
