OK. you had the battery disconnected. Here is what you do. Turn on the key. The security light will begin to flash. Wait (about 10 minutes) with the key in the ON position. The security light will stop flashing. TURN OFF the key. Then, turn on the key and start the car. Security system is supposed to prevent theft for a 10 minute delay. This usually discourages any thief. This will work, You just need to be patient with the 10 minutes. It seems like an hour when you wait ten minutes for that security light to stop flashing.
Is the security light flashing? If it is, put the key in and turn all the way but don't start. Leave on for 10 min. Or until the security light stops flashing. Turn off and then try to start.
1
Attempt to start the car. If it does not start, or dies very quickly after it started, then leave the key in the ignition in the "ON" position and wait 10 minutes. Make sure the security light is flashing. After 10 minutes the security light will stop flashing and either turn off or stay on steadily. When it does, then turn the ignition off, wait 20 seconds and attempt to restart the car.
2
Repeat this procedure three times in quick succession without removing the key from the ignition.
3
Start the car following the third 10-minute waiting period. The car should start and stay on. If it stays running, then the codes have been relearned and the problem is solved. If the car still does not start then you may need to have all or part of the passlock system replaced
Is the security light on or flashing ? The yellow wire goes from the key switch to the neutral safety switch, then to the starter. So bypassing the neutral safety would make the starter crank the engine, but would have nothing to do with the rest of the engine.
Check the dash once you turn the key to the run position the passlock runs a security check using a set resistance value through the chip in the key. If the security light begins to flash the reading it received was incorrect or it didn't get a reading at all. You can try reseting the value it is looking for by turning the key to start then releasing it. After 10 minutes turn it off then cycle it start again leaving it in on for 10 minutes then back to off then one more time. After the third cycle has completed for a total of 30 minutes. You should be able to turn the key on and start the vehicle. If the light continues to flash their is a problem with the chip in the key or the connections within the ignition its self. Both are common but a Pass Lock Relearn as described above will usually adapt to the poor connection values. Hope this helps.
sounds like the security system is malfunctioning. When you turn the key on does the security light stay on steady or flash? If flashing leave the key on for about fifteen minutes till it stays on steady. the engine should then start. if it does not go steady, likely you need to replace the ignition key switch assembly.
I discovered the hard way- ($85.00 later) Step 1: turn key to "on" position. step 2: open driver door. (security light should be flashing on and off) step 3: wait ten minutes with key in "on position and driver door open. step 4: when 10 minutes is up-(youll know-because security light will have stoped flashing after 10 minutes) close driver door ,turn key to "off" position, then turn key "on" to start. drives me crazy!! I have to do it to mine sometimes 2-5 times a day! GM doesnt have a fuel reset button etc. like fords do.
Turn the key to on. The security ight should be flashing at this point. The key should be turned to on for about 10 mins. The security light will be steady now, the turn off then start it. This re-sets.
