SONY RDR-HX 900 C13 ERROR

According to the operation manual, C 13 error indicates a problem with the HDD or the inserted DVD is dirty and/or defective. If cleaning/using a different disc does not solve the issue, then the unit will need to be submitted to an authorised SONY service centre for repair.

This could be expensive if the recorder is no longer under any warranty, and, if a built in hard drive is involved, replacement and reconfiguration may be necessary for this model. Get a quote, so that you will have an idea of the likely cost(s).

This service/error 'code' is part of the unit's self diagnosis function.

Try to turn off the machine (deplug it) for at least some minutes - and turn it on again. That worked for me! ;-)

HDD error

I have a SONY RDR HX-750 video recorder, that as of late has frequent "dub error" incidents...this unit has had a lot of use since purchased. It has served me very well until now. I have erased several recordings (many hours), and optimised the hard drive in an effort to correct the problem...to no avail. The problem persists. I can therefore, ownly deduct that the dvd drive is very "dirty", and needs to be "cleaned" (HOW CAN I DO THIS?)...or there is something wrong with the hard drive? Can you please help? Many thanks for any help and your time and consideration. Have a very good day!

Need 3 digit code for controlling sony rdr-gx7 dvd recorder with my time warner cable remote.

This is a common problem for the Sony RDR-GX7 dvd recorder.
It seems to occur with various remotes (DirectTV, Bell ExpressVu or in your case, the time warner cable remote).
In most cases, the problem can be solved by using a different remote frequency from the system menu as follows:
Insert a dvd and make sure it is not playing (stopped).
Enter the System Menu then / Setup / Options / Command Mode (this can be done from the access panel on the front of the unit). There are 3 possible values, (DVD1, 2 or 3), try changing it.
Then enter one of the suggested codes for your Warner remote (in my case, for Bell ExpressVu I selected the DVD1 command mode
and I used 883 as the 3-digit code. The up and down arrows are not functional with this code but I bypass this problem by entering the menu item number. Good luck!

Sony rdr vx410 dvd player playing some dvds in black and white

  • DVD's are standard definition video sources. Number of lines output is 576 lines, whereas your HD TV set has 720 or 1080 lines. This difference may result in a poorer image. However some DVD players are able to “upscale” picture to obtain a very good picture. Check if your DVD player has the following connectors: YUV, DVI or HDMI. For more information, refer to the instruction manual of your DVD player.

  • Some HDMI or DVI featured DVD players also have an internal processor that can upscale pictures from a DVD to 720 or 1080 lines to provide an excellent picture from a standard definition disc to your HD TV set. Those settings are available from the setup menu of your DVD player. Please refer to the instruction manual of your DVD player.

  • If your DVD player does not have those connectors and only has a SCART connector, or S-VIDEO, or composite, there is not much to do to improve the picture quality. Just make sure that you are not using the cheapest cables and that the picture settings of your TV set are correctly adjusted.

  • Some high end TV sets have a picture improvement engine that can soften a noisy image. Make sure that it is activated from the setup menu of your TV set. Please refer to the instruction manual of your TV set.

  • If people and objects have weird white outlines around them. This may suggest that your TV sharpness is set too high. Make the correct sharpness adjustments from the setup menu of your TV set.

  • Make sure you use good quality cables and that your cables are not too long (less than 5 meters long).

Command mode change disabled remote

According to Sony, if you turn the power on and hold the Enter key and the #1 key down together for at least 3 seconds, everything will default back to factory settings.
