My garage door will not close unless...

My Liftmaster garage door opener will not close unless I am holding down the hard-wired button, remote control button or key pad button. If I release the button, it immediately goes back up, however, once it is closed all the way it will remain closed. The lights in the front of the motor flashes and clicks three times when I push the button to close the door as usual; and it do not close. When I'm holding down the button to close the door it goes down slowly. I need your help! Thanks!

Have sears garage door opener it lifts allright but cant close unless you hold the wired pad. works ok up with the remote just jumps a little when you push down button will not close with remote.

Check your door sensors and make sure they are pointed at one another. Each of them has a small light that should be lit when they are properly aligned. Tweak them if necessary. If you can't get both lights to come on then one of the sensors has quit working.

your garage door has saftey sensors at the door
these are photo eyes
in the owners manuel that came with the opener
that has pictures in it which would help
the photo eyes need to be clear of debri and aimed at each other with no obstruction
there are leds on each sensor and when aimes properly they should be light if i remember correctly
if you can not get them to light then you may have to replace the sensors
