It sounds like the scanner has the Symbol Code ID character enabled and you are scanning a GS1-128 (formerly known as UCC/EAN 128) code. You can disable this by scanning the Symbol Code ID None barcode from Adobe page 211 of 460 (Chapter 12 page 3) of the LS9208 Product Reference Guide. https://atgsupportcentral.motorolasolutions.com/content/emb/docs/manuals/6083309a.pdf

Scanner suddenly stopped scanning, red light shines on UPC but nothing happens

Unplug the scanner, then power it on again. If it reads once and then stops, it is a configuration error such as bad cable or wrong settings in register. If it doesn't read straight after power up, try scanning the 'start' barcode in the scanner's programming manual. It should always be able to read this code. If it reads it, you have a setting fault in the scanner and you need to re-program it to read UPC and EAN codes again. If it reads none of the above codes after power up, have it checked by a dealer

Metrologic ms9520 not scanning UPC's

Hello.

The issue is likely due to the programming (or the lack of) of the scan gun. It is entirely possible that the UPC bar code is not configured in your gun as a valid bar code.

You can remedy this by programming the scan gun to recognize the UPC bar code (and any other bar codes you may need to scan). Use the link below to download the programming guides for this scan gun.

Hope this helps!

After scanning a bar code I need it to enter and go to next row in excel

Hi,

This can be possible, therefore it is not an Excel setting. You would need
to use the software that comes with your bar-code reader to configure this.

Try looking in your bar-code reader documentation for "Append Enter" or
"Append Carriage Return"

What is the upc?

UPC=Universal Product Code
Wikipedia says:
The UPC encodes 12 decimal digits as SLLLLLLMRRRRRRE, where S (start) and E (end) are the bit pattern 101, M (middle) is the bit pattern 01010 (called guard bars), and each L (left) and R (right) are digits, each one represented by a seven-bit code. This is a total of 95 bits. The bit pattern for each numeral is designed to be as little like the others as possible, and to have no more than four consecutive 1s or 0s in order. Both are for reliability in scanning.
Since S, M, and E all include two bars, and each of the 12 digits of the UPC-A barcode consists of two bars and two spaces, all UPC-A barcodes consist of exactly (3 × 2) + (12 × 2) = 30 bars.
The UPC has only numerals, with no letters or other characters. The first digit L is the prefix. The last digit R is an error correcting check digit, allowing some errors in scanning or manual entry to be detected. UPC data structures are a component of GTINs (Global Trade Item Numbers). All of these data structures follow the global GS1 standards.

I'm using Symbol LS1004 with SirsiDynix Symphony 3.3.1 Workflows. How can I tab over after each scan, without having to hit <Enter>? Thanks, -john

Here is what I did to fix the problem of the bar-code scanner not going to next line after a successful scan. (Symbol ls4000i,This fix should work for other models as well)

1. Get the manual for your scanner or here is a link to the Symbol LS400i
https://docs.symbol.com/manuals/3789802a.pdf
You will want to print off few pages that have the proper bar-codes for programming.

2. I usually start with setting scanner to the Default Parameter, this should be in section 5-7,page 50 of the manual.PRINT IT
Warning! If you set scanner to default, you need to be aware of which bar-code types you use. (We use UPC-A) Also if you have it programed for other things already you may not want to set all settings to default. You can skip to step 4. If you do not wish to reset all values to default.

Now scan the Default bar-code.

3. Now program scanner to Enable your bar-code type. (For us Enable UPC-A bar-code is in section 5-22,page 66. PRINT IT

Now Scan the Enable (your bar-code type UPC-A, UPC-E,etc etc)

4.Next You need to set a Suffix Value. The scan Suffix bar-code is found in section 5-80, page 124. PRINT IT

Now Scan the Scan Suffix bar-code

This prepares the scanner for the code of the whatever Suffix you want to add.

5. The Suffix you want to add to fix this particular problem is ENTER. So that it goes to the next line. There is a prefix/suffix value chart on page 162 table A-4. The code for ENTER Is 7013. In order to enter this code you will need to print off the Numeric Bar Codes found in section 5-109,5-110,pages 153,154. PRINT IT

Now scan in 7013 one number at a time to program ENTER as the suffix.

6.Now you have to program the Scan Data Transmission Format found in section 5-81,5-82, pages 125,126 . PRINT IT
(This lets the scanner know to transmit the Suffix after the data.)

First scan the Scan Options Bar-code.
Second scan the <DATA><SUFFIX> bar-code.

Last scan the ENTER Bar-Code.

YOUR DONE !

Your scanner should be working now. Also look through the manual there are some nice functions that can be turned on and off with a simple bar code scan. Such as volume and tone of beep etc etc.

Hope this helps

I need to strip the last character from the barcode when scanned with a Symbol P370 scanner. Is there a procedure for that?

If the barcode is a UPC-A or UPC-E you would scan the Do Not Transmit UPC-A or UPC-E Check Digit barcode from the P370 Product Reference Guide.

If the barcode is something other than a UPC-A or UPC-E the last character can be stripped using Advanced Data Formatting which would require the use of 123Scan. You can download 123Scan from support.symbol.com.

The P370 is NOT supported by the newer 123Scan2.

Hi, i am trying to configure my barcode scanner LS2208 to put a {TAB} in when scanning

There should have been a sheet or book of bar codes that came with your scanner. These codes will allow you to program your scanner to do most anything, including adding a tab. You simply look at the bar codes and read what they do. you simply scan the one that adds a tab and it will forever add the tab unless you re program it.

If you have lost your book/bar code page, you should be able to go to the manufacturer website and download/print a document with the programmable bar codes.
