There will be a simple switch fitted somewhere on the door latch mechanism. This has broken so the door is not registering as open or closed.

Troubleshooting- microwave turntable and fan run constantly when door closed, door switches test good, timer can be set and oven runs otherwise; need amana microwave ACM1580AS wiring diagram

I'd look for a defective relay or shorted triac on the control panel circuit board. Either could cause this problem.

Fan & Light stays on???

On a few new model microwave ovens, this is a "feature"! It's purpose is to cool the microwave parts down, and to remind you that your food is cooked. Once you open the door, the fan will shut off and stay off when you close the door again. But if not, or if you microwave oven didn't use to do this, then you have a bad door switch.

Door won't engage and stay closed

Possible that the lock was broken and so the door opened. You can remove the front panel and check for broken plastic or nylon pieces which can be glued using instant adhesive.
Reset the lock and switch and the door must lock in correctly

Says "Door open more than 5 minutes" when it hasn't

You are going to have to replace the door switch. The switch is staying open even when it should be closed. Talking about electrical current. Once that part is replaced everything will work just fine.

Door Won't Close

What usually breaks is the door open lever, but sometimes there's just a grease buildup around the door open button.

On a counter top model, the outer cover will need to be removed to diagnose and repair this. On an over-the-range model, only the control panel needs to be removed.

Please unplug the oven first.

If you or someone you know wants to look into this, we have critical safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, and our link is at our listing here on FixYa.

Once it is apart, you'll be able to see how the door open button would press against the door open lever, which would then lift up against the door latch heads (hook-like projections on the door) and the door should open.

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

If it's a Sharp or Kenmore, you can usually find exploded views and order parts by entering your model number here at the Sears parts site.

The best place to order Sharp parts is Tritronics.

If you still have trouble, please reply back with your model number so we can help you.
