Freezer never cools consistently and compressor never goes off

GE Profile PDF22MIS. Refrigerator cools fine and compressor doesn't run much. Freezer never goes off and fluctuates between 4-18F although it's set at the recommended 0F. Seal on door is fine all around. Unit is properly leveled with a slight tilt backwards so door shuts easily. No obstructions around coil in rear. Functions the same whether full, empty or in between. We live at 11,400'. Could this be a problem? I don't own an extended warranty. Should I buy one from GE? Bought it in Oct. 2006 and it has functioned like this all the time. Driving us crazy. We have a mountain cabin for quiet, but in the house it never is. Please help!

Many times a freezer and/or refrigeratordo not work right because of a dirty condenser coil...there are also many otherthings that can go wrong. If you are hearing a clicking or buzzing thencheck out the last two tips.

It sounds like you have a restriction. Sometimes if you unplug the refrigerator for 24 hours or so it will break loose. If it doesn't then you will have to call in a repair tech to fix it.

GE Refrigerator/Freezer not cooling

Loss of coldness is common with compressor related problems....relay and overload(simple fix), loss/leak of refridgerant(need a cert. tech). need to check the compressor and see if its running....do this by pulling the unit out and removing the back panel, place your hand on the compressor and see if it feels like its running....if not probably just a relay, if it is running, could be a more serious problem dealing with sealed system.
