My iphone does not alert me to new emails unless I open my email. In other words, the email ap doesn't show the correct # of emails actually in the box and I don't know there are new ones unless I open it. Any suggestions?

First delete all email accounts from your IPhone except the one that you want to be updated without opening the email app.  IPhone can only automatically update one email account without accessing the email app.  Under settings on your IPhone, choose "mail, contacts calendars."  Then choose "Fetch new data." Then make sure to set "Push" to the  "ON." position.  Then select the time window for checking for new emails, "15 min 30 min manually."  Theoretically, your email app will check your email account or new emails every 15 minutes if you choose the 15 min option. The IPhone does not yet update emails every time you receive an email.

Can't find my email

Make sure you are logging in with your @gmail.com credentials and that you previously had an email account. By that I mean, you can greate a google account that doesn't have a gmail account, thereby allowing you to login to google, but not an actual gmail account unless you have one setup. I have multiple google logins and only one account actually has a gmail email account.

The problem is most likely that your phone is receiving email using POP3 rather then IMAP or an Exchange server. To solve this problem simply set up your email account using either the Exchange Server or IMAP option. You should note however that your email provider must support these in order for you to use them, in the event that they do not support them you have no option but to use POP3.

Email alert

whenever there is a new mail/sms/mms/im there should be a "red asterisk". it is possible that you opened the mail folder already but haven't opened the mail yet that's why the indicator is gone.

Setting up Email Acct with Iphone

well to the first person unfortunatly the bellsouth email system is not yet designed to work with the 3g network so you would have to turn that off to use bellsouth.

Also for all of you need to remember that both Yahoo and AOL email work with the IMAP stands for Internet Message Access Protocol. It is a method of accessing electronic mail or bulletin board messages that are kept on a (possibly shared) mail server. In other words, it permits a "client" email program to access remote message stores as if they were local. For example, email stored on an IMAP server can be manipulated from a desktop computer at home, a workstation at the office, and a notebook computer while traveling, without the need to transfer messages or files back and forth between these computers.

where as the bellsouth system is a POP system. what the means is that when you check your email client on either the computer or the phone it is actually pulling the mail from the bellsouth server to the respective devices and deleting the email unless you have both set to leave a copy on the bellsouth server.

and again the sending and recieving issues with bell south is due to the 3g network
