Squeek sound when first started cold

When my Amana Gas Dryer with stainless steel drum is started up cold it has a loud "Squeek" sound like a loose fan belt on a car. After 5 minutes or so it gets quieter but not all the way to totally quiet. It also sounds at that point it may be a support roller for the main drum. Please provide information at to what is wrong.

SOURCE: I HAVE AN AMANA GAS DRYER THAT MAKES A VERY LOUD

Here is the link for the owner's manual, but it doesn't look like much help. Just cut and paste on the address bar of your browser. http://shop.amana.com/assets/pdfs/literature/40125301.PDF
Once you get through looking over the manual, here is how you fix your dryer:

  1. Unplug the power plug, disconnect the gas line, and vent hose, and pull out where you can access all sides.
  2. Take a putty knife and insert it between the top and the cabinet at the front corners to release the spring clips.
  3. Flip the top toward the back making sure the wiring harness to the timer and controls does not get pulled.
  4. Take off the access panel toward the bottom of the cabinet, push the belt tensioner away from the belt, and pull the belt off of the motor pulley.
  5. Lift the drum out of the cabinet, clean and re-grease the ball and socket at the back of the drum, clean off the surface where the belt rides with steel wool.
  6. If the idle rollers turn freely, clean the lint off of the surfaces, put the new belt on the drum and lower back into place.
  7. Put the belt back on the motor pulley, put the bottom cover back on, flip the lid closed, reconnect the gas, vent hose, and plug in.

SOURCE: Kenmore 417.81042000 Electric dryer has loud squealing sound

My dryer of the same model number had the same issue. The teflon/plastic wear points are worn out or have fallen off. They are about $22.00 plus shipping at the site below. Disconnect the power, lift (with force) the top off at the front of the dryer and you will have access to remove and replace.

Felt glide assembly - Upper felt seal with three glides attached. Comes with adhesive.

SOURCE: Maytag dryer (LDE5914ACE) loud slipping/thumping sound

yes, it's called a blower wheel... it is what blows the air into the dryer to blow out the humidity through the vent... it has a D fitting and as you use it, the D rounds out and the 'squirrel cage' stops spinning and begins to slip... if you continue to use the dryer without replacing this, you could burn up your dryer motor... it will just over heat....

I get a loud scraping noise when I first start up the dryer

It sounds like the drum is off balance, the drum could be scrapping along the side of the dryer. Check for a loose bolt on the drum assembly. Once it starts running the drum levels out and the scrapping noise goes away

Dryer makes a thumping sound with or without anything in it

Look for a crack in the seam, where the stainless steel drum is welded together, either at the front or back edge of the drum. If weld is cracked, replace drum.

You will need to check the tub roller wheels. This is a common noise when the wheel bearings start to ware down. They are not expensive, and you should be able to do this yourself. Good Luck Friend.

My Maytag gas dryer (MDG3000AWW) is making a terric noise. Checked the belt, rollers, motor and blower. All seem well. The drum however does not rotate smothely, Appears warped. Is this possible?

A warped drum is possible, but not likely. Check the bearing at the rear of the drum to see if it is breaking loose from the drum. If still under warranty, take advantage. If not, and the bearing IS breaking loose, the mount can probably be welded. If the drum interior is enameled finish, the damage can be repaired with epoxy. If the drum is stainless steel, the weld area can be re-polished to original. Hope this helps!

Dryer making a high pitched squeek, I took apart

I normally don't work on gas dryers but it sounds like the drum rollers are in need of lubrication. Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them. If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem. I will include these two websites for parts and further help: http://www.partselect.com/ http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx Both also have chat assistance 24/7. Good Luck, I hope this helps Please rate me, Thank You

My amana gas dryer is making a loud knocking noise. it does heat

Sounds like you might have a pully belt problem, or perhaps you left a shoe in the drier? It is possible the guides for the drum are worn or out of alignment also.
