take the back off oh unplug it first and then read the label that says no user serviceable parts inside its kinda like the tag on pillows the three delta lenses can be cleaned with a soft cloth dampened with windex they are an optical grade of plastic like the screen so all those caveats apply if you are really brave you can take the lense assemblies off and clean (gently the concave) portion of the top of the crts they are filled with coolant and should be treated with care if you are really brave use windex on the plate glass mirror if you are nice to your tv it will look real good when you get done it will look even better if you know how to refocus the focus block and the screen controls all the home theater dvds wont make up for zen and the art of projo maintenance

SOURCE: Sony warms up - picture slowly becomes dark

You are losing screen voltage or whats called the boast voltage most likely. This is probably being caused by a bad capacitor in the sweep power supply. You will need to get a service manual as well as use an ESR type capacitor meter to find the bad capacitor(s). Good Luck

SUBJECT: Picture gets bright then shuts down. After repairs tech noticed a mark was created on all 3 CRT's.
CAUSE: Found Video Output was defective causing the failure of the 200v line. 200 volt line has two fuse resistors R7301 (10 ohm 1/4w) on the CB Board. R8225 (1 ohm 1/2w) on the D board. R8208 (0.47 ohm 1/2w) also on the D Board. All three resistors are in series. One or all 3 could be open. After replacing 2 resistors and Video Output IC set returned to normal operation. CRTs will need to be changed due to phosphor damage. On Models KDP-51WS550, KDP-57WS550, KDP-65WS550 CB Board resistor is R9335 10 ohm 1/4w. D Board resistor is R6509. NOTE: This resistor may be a jump wire according to the schematic. Models: KP-51WS520, KP-57WS520 These models have a fuse resistor on all 3 CRT Boards. CB R9335 10 ohm 1/4w CR R9110 10 ohm 1/4w CG R9211 10 ohm 1/4w On the D Board R6509 is a jumper wire according to the schematic.

Mitsubishi TV 65 inch rear projection. WS 65809 I went thru the convergence ic chip replacement years ago. Love the TV. My problem now is that the brightness goes from full bright to full dim then...

The old Mitsubishi units had a super capacitor in the logic circuit instead of a backup battery. This capacitor became leaky over time, causing the problem you describe among others. Number one symptom is set has audio and dark or black picture when powered up. As the super cap charges to full voltage, picture comes and goes.

I have an old Sharp flat-tube tv. The picture is bad, it's very dim even though the brightness setting is all the way up.

If the "contrast" is also turned up, then, the tube is toast and needs replacement. A local repair shop can quote you so you can determine if it's cheaper to purchase a new t.v. or not.

It depends of the set--may have a light sensor built in and if so when light in the room changes the brightness on the TV and contrast will vary.

You could smash the TV and find that it will work better or call a local repairman. I know the exact problem with this TV, but only a technician should even open a TV. The guy I got the TV from totally butchered the inside of his Akai in a failed attempt to fix his TV himself. Instead, he created a fire hazard and is lucky he did not burn his house down.
