SOURCE: Depleted Batteries

I had the same problem...
I tried several different types of batteries.
The only one that I found that works is rechargeable batteries.
I am using the ones that came with my Logitech mouse/keboard, so, I just use the mouse to recharge the batteries when needed.
Other rechargeables don't work...
these are :

Ni-MH AA 1400 mAh 1.2 volt

The built-in memory only has about 8 pictures or so. You have to buy a memory card to insert in the same section where the batteries are inserted.

SOURCE: battteries depleted messageon Pentax Espio E40, even though have tried brand new batteries.

HI. this seems to be a battery scanning fault in the programming. try to reset the board by pulling the battery and removing all power of 30 minutes. completely drain all power from this unit for 30 minutes. if this message continues after you have rest the programming, this will confirm a serious fault within the internal program. you will have to send this device back to a pentax repair terminal for reprogramming.

According to its manual, just turn it off ,wait for one minute and
turn it on again. It'll reset th camera. You need to reset the date/time.

My pentax m20 optio wont turn on.. it says battery deplete..

Hi there - these are older posts, but I just experienced this problem (it appears to be pretty common). The fix I discovered (that works), is to insert your batteries (make sure they're fresh), and then press and hold the "on" button plus "Menu" button, together at the same time. Hold until the firmware resets (a message will pop up on screen and the camera will reset). Voila! It works again for as long as the batteries are in and operational. Also note that in my case, if the batteries are taken out, I have to go thru the reset process again, but at least I have the camera back up and running. Hope this helps others!!

No matter what I do, my camera keeps giving me a "Battery Depleted" message whenever I try to turn it on. It's a Pentax Optio E40, and I've only had it a couple of weeks. It was working fine, but...

I had the same problem and checked the manual. If you haven't used the camera in a while and there were either no batteries or dead batteries in it, put in new batteries, keep it off, and WAIT a few minutes. Then try to turn it on. This helped with Pentax Optio E40.
