Your timer is the trouble. This is inexpensive fix. You can get a new timer installed for about
$125 to $150 depending on the model.

Yes on the red wire. I don't know of a 4 hole receptacle but that doesn't mean it doesn't exist. Do you also plan to change your breaker? You'll need to disconnect the red wire and cap it.

the belt probably broke. if you can pop the top up and look at drum that turns and dont see a belt around it then you would need a belt. remove top panel by removing two to 3 screws behind dryer on top rear. turn off power first. then you will be able to see drum. part # for belt is 661570 roughly 19.99-29.99 thats to do it your self. if you call a local servicer you are looking at 75-125 labor plus part. hope this helps and gives you a general idea of the prices you are looking at to repair

I have a ref. thermometer, round metal type I got a Wal-Mart that I check the dryer temp at the discharge. I bent the metal bottom so I can lodge it in the discharge pipe, turn the dryer on and watch the temp. Normally on high heat it will go up to 140-150 and cool down to 120-125 then cycle back on.

on high turns off at 155 medium high 150 medium 140 low 125 extra low 105 all theese are plus or minus 10 degrees

doesn't usually happen so quick but may be a blockage in the air duct. take top off. if i remember right, duct runs across the back to the dryer fan. check for lint build-up. if poor air flow, an overheat stat will cut off the dryer
