Dell firmware for Seagate SAS harddisk

The firmware for any electronics device tells the hardware how to properly function.

Most devices rarely need a firmware upgrade, however, computer products such as a Seagate hard drive need to have the firmware updated periodically due to computers constantly going through operating system upgrades.

Luckily, you can update your Seagate hard drive firmware with an Internet connection and a few clicks of your mouse.

Connect your Seagate hard drive to your computer if the hard drive is external.

Launch your Internet browser and navigate to the Seagate.com website.

When the site loads click the "Downloads" button.

Click on the hard drive listing you currently own.

This brings up all of the most current downloads for your Seagate hard drive.

The listings of the hard drives have the image, so match your hard drive to the image online if you are not sure what drive you have.

The user manual states what hard drive you currently own also.

If you don't have your owners manual, open "My Computer" (or "Computer") and right-click the hard drive icon and select "Properties."

Here the computer states exactly what model of hard drive you have.

Click the Firmware update and click the "Download" button to launch the download.

Click-and-drag the file into the hard drive if you are using an external hard drive

(open "My Computer," then double-click the removable hard drive icon).

Open the downloaded file and follow the prompts to install the updated firmware.

Hope this helps

Momentus 5400 fde.3 formatting error

Which operating system ?

If windows 7 click start richt click on computer select properties then device manager scroll to your disk (hard drive) expand right click select update drive software

Every Seagate drive requires a few firmware updates during its lifetime.

Seagate firmware must be up-to-date to ensure that the product will run reliably.

Changing the firmware on a Seagate product to a more updated version will improve the product's performance.

Check the Seagate website often for any update available for your drive.

The firmware can be changed with just a few clicks of your mouse on the Seagate Web page.

Click the "Start" button on the bottom-left corner of the screen.

In the window that pops up, click " My computer " or just "Computer."

Another window will show up with an icon for your hard drive.

Right-click the hard drive icon and press the "Properties" option.

This will tell you what model your hard drive is.

For example, your hard drive might be ST31500341AS.

Open your Web browser. Type in www.seagate.com and press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Wait for the webpage to load.

Enter the word "Firmware" and your model number in the search box on the upper right hand corner of the webpage and press "Enter" on the keyboard.

Using the example from Step 1, type in "Firmware ST31500341AS".

Click on the first link that is returned in the search results.

Locate the firmware update. Double-click the update.

Press the "Download Firmware Update Utility" link to start downloading.

Click yes on any pop-up boxes that you may see.

Open the new firmware file by double clicking the file that you downloaded in Complete the installation by accepting all of the default questions that are asked during the installation process.

Hope this helps

When turning on copier it starts on the start up screen (has a picture of copier). It never changes and says printer is offline for printer as well...

On Toshiba's this is almost ALWAYS a hard drive failure. Toshiba loads the "firmware" or operating system on the hard drive so when it goes bad the copier will turn on or say please wait but that is all. You will need a Toshiba tech to come out and replace the drive as well as load the firmware onto the new drive. You can not simply replace the drive on these machines like you can most other copiers.
Good Luck and Thank You for using Fixya.

I have a hzd4b with 4 1-tb drives all new. I try to connect to the box to initilize the system but cannot. I believe the firmware is loaded on the hard drives them selves like the buffalo nas solution. ...

petrykja,
I have the same issue as you. I bought an encloser to hold my drives (that i already owned). My firmware is showing 0.38 so I don't think the firmware is housed on the hard drive. However, when I try to upgrade the firmware it says that it can't find the drive to load from. So I think the firmware is first loaded to one of the drives and then to the motherboard. Not sure. Any luck with this wince December?
