Light goes out and turntable stops, but still hums like power is still on.

You have a bad door switch that will need to be replaced.

How do you change the light bulb on an electrolux built in microwave ?

It is indeed straightforward but it requires removing the 4 phillips head screws that hold the trim kit on. Then you need to remove it from the cabinet (along with unplugging the cord.) Once that is done you will need to remove the 4 black phillips head screws along the bottom part of each side, 2 phillips from the left rear and 2 security T20 screws from the right side. I found that removing the 2 screws holding the bracket on the capacitor and the front allowed me to move the light housing enough to get to the bulb. In my case the bulb had unscrewed itself. I am not a big fan of the engineering associated with this model or the labor that assembled it.

Burned out light bulb

You can download the owner's manual here.

If the owner's manual doesn't cover it and there's no obvious cover on the side or rear, you'll have to remove the outer wrapper.

See these files:

http://207.234.249.73/mwd/safety.txt
http://207.234.249.73/mwd/disassembly.txt

The light will be located on the right side in the air duct attached to the magnetron or on the top of the oven cavity.

Most bulbs can be matched up at hardware stores, home improvement centers, and places like Wal-Mart or even large grocery stores.

NO POWER

1 the obvious question.... have you tried a known working outlet. 2. Most likely the internal fuse has failed and must be replaced. You can access this fuse by removing 4 side panel screws, (2 on each side) and 6 rear chassis cover screws. BEFORE you start unplug the unit. Remove the 10 screws. Standing behind the unit, then lift the top cover slightly and pull toward you. the side guide tabs wil unlock and the cover will come free. Once the chassis open aviod the large capacitor as it can still ruin your day. Follow the power cord until you see the fuse block. Remove the fuse... obtain an EQUAL value replacement and install the new fuse. reinstall the cover making sure the side guide tabs interlock on the front sides of the chassis. Plug the unit in and see if you have any signs of power.... I.e light on with door open or control panel dispaly lights up. If you have visible signs of power places a coffee cup filled with water inside the microwave and see it it heats up. If it starts and then all the power goes off again you probably have a bad diode. If it works fine then your in luck.

Lights stuck on on microwave

We see (and repair) this a lot. The problem is on the control panel, which we regularly repair nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in about a week or so.

This light failure often occurs when a bulb goes out and the filament shorts, or when the bulbs are removed or installed without first unplugging the oven from the power line. Either can cause such a failure on the controller.

This can often also affect the exhaust fan, cooling fan, turntable, and/or inside light operation, too.

Details of our service are at our Web site, along with a video showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

Feel free to contact me directly with your brand, full model number and symptoms.

I have an admiral microwave model 8573

That's made by Sharp and many of theirs (and other brands) require you to take the outer cover off to change the bulb. Here's how: Unplug the oven first. That's rule one! Remove all of the screws from the side and back of the outer wrapper / cover of the microwave. There are usually four on the rear edges and two on the bottom of the edges on each side of the cover. The cover then should be slid slightly backward then up from the rear and it will slide off. You may have to pat down on the sides to loosen it first. I use firm and simultaneous open-palmed slaps on both sides near the front, then pull it up and off. It is possible that some voltage will remain on the high voltage capacitor and can be conducted via contact with wires, connectors and components connected to it. If you stay away from all the wiring in the right rear (as you're looking at the front door) it should not be a problem. Unless there is a problem, the voltage should actually not be present. If you and the work area are clean and dry, and you only touch the light bulb while the cover is off, there should be no problem. Change the bulb. It may be held in with a bit of clear tape, too, so take a look at the socket first. When putting it back on, be careful that the inside front edges of the cover catch properly in the slots in the chassis. Good luck and be safe! Make sure it is unplugged!
