Does it give any other message? Such as Operating System Not Found?
Does it beep at all, or continually? It may be the keyboard if it's a continual beeping - you can grab a keyboard fairly cheaply ($10ish) almost anywhere to test. (And if it's not that, you have a backup keyboard.)

Does it make any other noises? Clicking or the like? It may need service, as the drive may have failed.

SOURCE: Reload now will not boot show F1 reboot or 2 setup

Since the hard drive was wiped, it's unlikely you will get the function keys to operate exactly as they did from the manufacturer without performing a re-install using Dell's proprietary installation discs.

If you want the pc to work exactly as it did before the discs were wiped, your best option is to order a set of backup discs directly from Dell.

The Dell online backup disc request form can be found at the following location. You will see a "Request Backup Disc" button toward the bottom of the page.

http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/dsn/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=3A1C590C9132AB20E040A68F5B28350B&journalid=72452E05A7CD7622E040AE0AB5E15C37&Query=&SystemID=&ServiceTag=&contenttype=&os=&component=&lang=&doclang=&toggle=&dl=

Before you order the discs, you will need to call Dell's customer support number at 1-866-234-9297 to have the ownership information changed.

If you feel this information is helpful to you, please take a few minutes to rate this response.

SOURCE: cant reboot

Good day sir/maam, the reson why it froze is caused by a bad memory module, you may need to replace it. Open up your computer and locate the memory modules, remove all memory modules and bring it to a computer vendor for testing. or if you have the cash, better buy a new one. make sure that what you install on your PC be it tested or new is good.

SOURCE: "disk read error occured". After

Hi,

This can be indication that your Harddrive is not being detected by the system. You can try loading the defaults in BIOS or re-detect your harddrive automatically. See if it is listed in the boot devices in BIOS. You can also try to check if power is correctly supplied in the harddrive. Open your CPU box, take out the cables (especially the molex) for the harddrive and put them back in firmly.

You can try to use the 32 bit harddrive diagnostic of dell to check if your harddrive is still working or not. Here's a guide: Click Here

Hope this helps.

When I boot My Dell Inspiron 531, it goes to a screen that says it can't find the Floppy Disk Drive, and says, at the bottom, to press F1 to reboot, or F2 to change the settings.

Simply press F2 and the screen probably a blue color with lots of settings you are talking about is BIOS setup. In this setup find a tab named "Boot setting" or something similar and go inside this menu. You will find devices and look for floppy drive and set is "Disabled". Save and exit. Error will disappear.

Cannot enter bios in the standard way with F2. I believe IDE controller is set to disable

Turn on your computer. If your computer is already on, then reboot it.

You need to see the initial display screen to get into the BIOS.

Press the F1 key immediately in one second intervals when you see the initial screen displaying the BIOS provider information.

The majority of Gateway computers use the F1 key.

If, for some reason this does not work, then use the F2.

All of Gateway's desktops use the F1 or F2 keys.

hope this helps
