If your ice maker doesn't make ice, check out these expert do-it-yourself ice maker repair ... W. Branner Side by side GE fridge, stopped dispensing ice both cubed and crushed. ... Had the same problem with my Kenmore Elite Series Refrigerator. Upon searching for the answer the closest and simplest answer was a faulty fan specific to the ice maker compartment. This fan is suppose to regulate the humidity in the ice maker, but sometimes the humidity becomes too high and that causes the fan to freeze. (A tell tell sign is when your Ice Maker shoot freezes up, or water begins to drip from the Ice Maker and puddles up in the catch tray or on the floor in front of the Refrigerator). When the fan becomes frozen, that causes the 1F error display to come on. There was also a second reason that was consistent with a faulty circuit board, but that did not match as closely as the faulty fan.
Most answers directed you to replace the fan...but I gave this a try first, and by the way my option has solved my problem fan for over two years now. Simply .. open the refrigerator door and turn the Ice Maker off. Then take the ice tray out and dump any remaining ice and clean and dry off the tray and the ice shoot that the ice drops through into your glass. Leave the Ice Maker off for 3-5 days, giving the fan enough time to thaw and dry out. You will have to live with the inconvenience of no Ice Maker for that amount of time .. but you can do that rather than paying an enormous fee to have it serviced in home (unless you're still under warranty). After 3-5 days has expired simple turn the Ice Maker back on. If by any chance this doesn't work..try it a second time but leave the Ice Maker off 5-7 days. Honestly, this should solve the problem. Mine is still working flawlessly. God Bless
What kind of ice cream maker is it? I just bought a Nostalgia Electric Double Flavor Ice Cream Maker and it did the same exact thing. I poured the salty ice water out in some containers, set it aside to use it again, took everything apart, and started over from the begining. I put it all back together properly again, added the salty ice water once more, and turned it on. It worked! I hope it does the same for you. If not, I would see about getting it looked at somehow.
Ice maker has built in thermostat that turns cycle on at around 10 degrees F. If freezer temp does not reach that point the ice maker will not cycle. So either the freezer is not cold enough or the thermostat is faulty.
Make sure that the ice maker motor that turns the cams and controls the various stages is also working.
Ice makers as a rule are more reliable than they used to be, but they still go out. Not knowing how old your frig. is it's hard to anwser your question. Ice makers have a small motor in them that quit working, you may be able to test that. Check the control arm that turns the ice maker off when full, it may be stuck, some friges have a switch to turn off the ice maker, check for that.
If you cant manually turn your auger motor, it may be bad. Does it dispense solid ice or no ice at all? Another thing may be your control panel. That could be bad too, it's the one sending juice to both your solenoid and auger motor.
The auger motor and coupling in the rear may be frozen and won't turn.
Remove the ice bin.
Place a screwdriver or similar device in the forks of the auger and twist counterclockwise till it moves. The replace the ice bin and try again.
It will be difficult to move.
If that does not work. Turn off the fridge and use a hair dryer to hrat the auger gear and motor till it frees up.
