Hello,

Yes you can. On the bottom of the laptop there are 2 slide releases, one releases the battery the other is for the multi bay. With the computer off just slid the release and the drive will slide out forward. You can pick up dvd drives on Ebay and other sites for about $30.00 and you can even get dvd burners for your machine. If windows is running you can look in the bottom right corner and click on the eject hardware icon and stop the floppy or cd/dvd drive and eject the drive with the machine on. If the laptop is on you do need to stop the drive before you eject it or you can damage the drive and the laptop. I hope this helps you, if so please rate my solution.

Dell latitude c510 c610 driver download

Normal 0

You can download the drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on the bottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Tag label is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where the specific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you select the Windows XP or Vista version of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on this link to download the drivers: -

I just bought a Dell Latitude C510/C610 ...it will post to the bios ok but will not find the new hard drive I just bought ...it is an 80 Gb WD. When I go to the bios I can only change the date on the first...

Try to find the setting for what is listed below....it may help out with the laptop finding the new drive. Even if your new drive is a SATA configuration, try below it may help you.

BE SURE that you put the Hard Drive on "Compatibility" mode in BIOS, which was defaulted to "AHCI" (Compatibility is also known as IDE).

To change that setting, you need to do the following:

1. Press F2 when booting up the computer
2. Select 'Config', then 'Serial ATA (SATA)'
3. Change controller option to 'Compatibility' / 'IDE'

I put a c610 bios update in my dell c510 latitude laptop

Go back to the Dell website and enter your computer model number and then go to the support tab and then find the bois file list and see if there is any earlier bios files that you could reflash the bios with an older bios version. Or, if you saved your old bios to a file before you updated to the newer bios you could reflash the bios using that one. You did save your old bios didn't you? Does your computer boot to the OS ok or not. I really don't have enough information from you to really help any further. Sorry, Dennis

I can't read a dvdhs in my dvd drive

Try this
http://www.fixya.com/support/r3688895-cd_rom_or_dvd_drive_not_seen_in_windows
if the FixIt utility doesn't resolve, continue with the rest of the article.
If no change, uninstall then reinstall the DVD playback software
If still no go, then most likely a drive replacement

Dell Latitude C510/c610 Can this notebook book from the USB Port? I want to install Fedora Linux on my newly repartitioned HD but I can't read the DVD (don't have DVD drive available).

When you want to boot to the USB hard drive just have the drive installed, reboot the system, select the appropriate function key to go to boot options (should tell you what to press in the beginning of boot up) and select USB hard disk.

An important thing to note: Most Linux distributions won't boot from a USB hard drive or thumb drive without a special program for unpacking it to the USB Hard disk. Check with the distribution website for special instructions.

Good Luck,

How easy is it to change a cd drive to a floppy on a dell latitude xpi running win 95?

It is very easy if you buy the floppy drive separately and connect it via one of your USB ports. But who wants to change a CD to a floppy? It's like changing a exchanging a motorcycle for a bicycle. CDs are newer technology....unless you have old data you want to retrieve.

Dell Latitude C610 doesn't recognize hard drive

when you took out the old hard drive
there is a black hard drive connector
this would have holes to push on to the new hard drive
without this, it will not plug into the motherboard
be careful if one of the pins breaks the hard drive wont work

Hard Drive Read Failure

No--I would say that the hard drive has gone bad on you.
The BIOS can see a hard drive, but it can't tell if it's any good.
If it's defective, well--you see what happens!

External hard drive

Yes, no problems, if the USB hard drive draws too much power you will need to attach an external power supply, usually the small laptop 21/2" drivers don't need external power supplies.
