SOURCE: Installation of GE Microwave Oven

We have changed out a GE for another same brand, newer model. You will need two people to make the change-one of the two must be strong enough to support the unit after you remove the 3 bolts that hold it into the cabinet above. You will see these screws in the bottom shelf of the cabinet above your unit. A driver drill w/ the socket attachment to fit these "screws" would make it go faster. You'll need a step stool or a step ladder to get above the unit. There is a power cord that plugs into an outlet-make sure you have unplugged this before starting. While one is supporting the unit, the other is unscrewing the three bolts, When screws are out, the person on the ladder should come down and help w/ the unit removal. The unit is tipped forward to release it from the wall, as it is hooked into a bracket affixed to the wall. When you tip it forward, both of you should be prepared to lift it off the bracket. It helps to have the way cleared and a table or countertop ready on which to set it. BTW, My microwave installer did not use the flange provided to seal the vent around the cutout in the lower shelf of the upper cabinet. Removing ours, I can see why, there is no way to get the unit lined up w/ the flange and the duct and still tip it into the provided cut out. We bought metal sticky duct tape to seal it, and used the opportunity to reseal the above cut outs as well. I think some cabinets are constructed around the microwave installation, and if so, you could use the existing flange set up. When you are ready to put in the new one, do it in reverse, but schedule some clean up time in between, the grease finds a way of eluding all systems and you'll want to 409 it before putting in your new one. If this is too mu8ch for you, ask an installer or a neighbor to help-it doesn't require an electrician. You might want to ok into what GE is doing these days so your aren't dissappointed w/ the new unit after such a successful run with your first purchase.

SOURCE: GE Microwave won't heat or cook - one year old

More than likely the magnetron has failed. This could be for a number of reason. Do you use your microwave to heat wheat packs or warm plates? If so, you may have dried the magnetron out (they use the moisture in whatever you're cooking to heat it, and plates/wheat bags have no moisture).

I'd say a trip to your local Microwave repairer could be in order. It could also be the High Voltage Fuse which has failed. Either way a repairer will be able to tell you!

SOURCE: GE Spacemaker microwave oven - Sensor error

Hello :

Many models of the GE microwave have sensors that can detect humidity from the foods you are cooking. This allows the microwave to make adjustments to the power levels used to cook your food. If "Sensor Error" appears, you should either press "Clear" to cancel the mode or leave the food in the appliance longer to give the microwave more time to detect the food.

Press "Time Cook" to manually enter the time if you receive an error message when trying to use the "Sensor Reheat" mode of your GE microwave. The error message may be caused by the food item being too large or too small to detect
..

good luck .

Panasonic NN-SN960S, turntable won't stop spinning. Have to unplug after every use. What kind of repair does it need and how much would it cost?

May be a door switch problem, or may be a control board problem. You might even have a shorted wire that goes to the turntable motor. (I have seen 1 of the wires get pinched and cut by metal guards or guides that were meant to keep the wires in place.) You can remove the screws from the bottom of the microwave oven, and drop the bottom panel down to checked for pinched wires. Unplug the microwave first before you do that.

My ge micro will not stop turning

HELLO.

If by not turning mean turntable fault, the solution is given below in detail.

1 Press "Stop" to halt microwave operation.

2 Press the "Turntable" button once to turn off rotation.

3 Push the door-release button to open the microwave oven if you do not have a "Turntable" button on your control keypad.

4 Lift and remove the glass platter from the oven, then pick up the plastic track with three wheels below the platter. Set aside these parts.

5 Insert the elevated microwave cooking tray into the oven. The tray has three to four short legs that hold it above the bottom of the microwave, keeping it from interfering with the rotating bolt in the bottom center of the oven the drives the turntable. You can now place food on the elevated tray and cook normally without disrupting the drive bolt.

Thanks.

My above the range Maytag Microwave oven plate does not rotate. Bought a new rotator wheel as the old one was broken, and the central spindle will rotate, but not with the plate on it. What can I do?

The spindle (called a turntable shaft) sits atop a small motor shaft from the turntable motor. You either have a weak turntable motor, stripped shaft (which allows the motor shaft to free spin when it has any weight on it), or both.

The turntable motor is located under the bottom panel of the microwave oven. You do not have to uninstall the oven for this repair.

First, unplug the unit, remove the glass carousel tray, and pull straight up on the turntable shaft to remove it. Next, locate and remove the series of screws along the bottom panel underneath the oven. The bottom panel will open exposing the drive motor. The motor comes out by disconnecting the connector plug and a couple of mounting screws.

If the model number you have this listed under is correct, you can view these parts at searspartsdirect.com. Locate items 11 (turntable motor) and 14 (shaft) under the "Cavity" heading. Other sites you may try are pcappliancerepair.com, appliancepartspros.com or repairclinic.com to see if you can find these parts any cheaper.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information helpful.
