If you are saying that you have power to the starter when you turn the key then the starter is bad. You can try lightly taping the outside of the starter case with a small ball peen hammer which can sometimes jiggle the brushes inside the starter enough that it will work again for a short time.

Are you pushing in the clutch? If yes, then it might be the clutch switch. Most mowers need the clutch in to start. I have wasted many hours by not knowing that.

SOURCE: Replaced starter and sylenoid - but engine won't always turn

sounds like the bendix spring is bad on the starter (it's the spring that returns the gear to it not moving state)...good luck

SOURCE: Replaced starter and sylenoid - but engine won't always turn

Sounds to me like you need to replace the starter solenoid switch, follow the cable back from the starter post and it lead you to the solenoid.

SOURCE: My tractor will not start. I put a new starter,

Try connecting a jumper cable to the battery. You can use the battery in an automobile to jump the mower battery. If the jumper cable causes the engine to start normally, replace the battery.

The best way to test a battery is with a volt meter. A good, fully charged battery will measure 12.6 volts dc across the positive and negative terminals. If you turn the ignition key to the start position with the meter connected to the battery terminals, the voltage should not drop below 12 volts dc. Post back your results.

I have a 2002 mercury mountaineer that wont turn over at all the battery is good and there's a clicking noise coming from the relay box what would that be

The clicking noise will be relays. Possibly a starter relay and thats normal. Sounds as if the starter moter may be the culprit. You have to check for start power at the starter solenoid while cranking before any further daignostics can be done. Sometimes tapping on the starter motor while holding the key in the crank position will start the vehicle. If so the stater motor is defective

I have grand am gt 2002 most time it starts.replace starter and new battrie. when turn the keyno power to moter I have to turn the keys on and off couple time and then it starts up any ideas on whats

Could be issue with ignition switch or security system? If the starter motor won't crank, check voltage circuits at the starter. Usually two voltage circuits, one is battery voltage, hot all the time. The other voltage comes from crank position of ignition switch. That circuit could be routed through the neutral switch or clutch switch, depending on your tranny.

Any testing at starter make sure tranny is in park or neutral and the parking brake is set.

Rover 75 on51 plate battery ok but starter moter juut clicks when i turn the key

Secret code yet again this plate lark, right two possibilities here either battery is no good with no reserve amperage or the starter motor has failed ,try charging the battery and then a jump start as well with proper leads not them things with a thick insulation and three strands of wire inside .

Why won't my 2001 pontiac bonneville wont start? All it does when i turn the key is click twice

Try checking your ignition fuse. Check your battery and make sure it is good. Check your wires and terminals and make sure they are cleaned and tight. If you do have interior lights, it may be the starter or startr solenoid.

In cold weather car cranks, but it does not have enough power or fuel to get it started. Have new battery. Have had to use starter fluid as well as a jump to get it started in this cold weather. What could...

a worn out starter could do it if the bushing in it are worn it would pull to much power from the battery and would not turn the moter over fast enough to pump enough gas to start the car if its carberated then it has a manual fuel pump the fuel pump wont pump enough gas if the moter is not turning over fast enough i would either rebuild the starter or replace it.

I was riding the tractor mowing shut it off to get lunch returned 1 hr later would not start. I bought a new battery and had the starter checked all good still wont start. I get a click when i turn the key...

The starter solenoid sounds to be bad. Follow the + cable from the starter and it will lead to the solenoid. This is usually about $10. The battery produces power to the solenoid which then produces power to kick the starter over. The clicking is the contacts in the solenoid you are hearing.

It clicks will not start

My Craftsman B&S used to do this a lot. Sears told me it was the battery and that the moter takes every bit of the batter to start the motor. Try charging the battery or using a new, larger battery. The clicking is just from the starter not getting enough power to turn over and is not causing any problems. Good Luck.
