If its a setting, try turning
Center CH Input (located under Initial Setup) to OFF

If speakers are not turned off in audio or main menu and not muted and not a box with the sound down---do you hear anything if put ear right to speaker?

check plugs on back of set. most likely you have component (green,blue and red). That will give you 1080i resolution. Of course that's not as good as the 1080p coming out of the bluray but at least it will be high def.

Have you tried unplugging the tv and letting it sit for a while then plugging it back in?

also.. sometimes i have seen appliances that will flash the power light if an internal fuse has blown to indicate a problem. open it up if you feel you want to and check for a fuse around where the power cord comes in teh tv.

Start at the wall plug. Did a breaker trip for that outlet? Next use a multimeter to check voltage at the power input to the TV where the power cord connects to the mainboard. Be sure you are checking AC voltage. Next check DC voltage at the power switch on the inbound side of the switch. The power switch is usually after the transformer and AC to DC circuit. If you are getting power to all three places, check the other side of the on/off button. This will eliminate most of the power-related circuit. Also, look for blown capacitors, or burned areas around the power circuit.

Is pix ok before shutdown?

If convergence is wildly misaligned then load may be shutting down power supply. Fix convergence and TV OK.

Many models of this time frame have an auto index function, and will alway record the pulse when entering record mode from "stop" or "pause". To prevent this unit from recording the pulse, try backspacing the tape, then press "Play", then press "Record" while play is engaged. Always works for me. Another thing you can try if you want the machine to ignore the index on previously recorded material, is to switch the index function to "Counter"; When FF or REW, the unit will look for the counter "0000" rather than the index pulse. ...Accordianman
