Gear puller bare with me here i need to know if there is a specfic kind of gear puller i need and where would be a good place to find one

To get just the harmonic balancer off you will need a heavy duty gear puller; they do make harmonic balancer pullers but a really good gear puller will work just as well. Whatever you do, don't try prying it off with a bar, or hitting it with a hammer; you'll either damage the crankshaft or the balancer or possibly both.
It's also a lot easier to do when the motor is out of the car; you'll need a lot of room to work getting it off.
Back to the balancer; take all of the belts off, loosen the bolt in the center of the balancer (you will need to lock the flywheel so the crank doesn't turn when you try to loosen the bolt). Once it's loosened, take it out a couple of turns, but no more than that, attach the puller and start pulling it off, once you see it move, you can take the puller off, remove the bolt, you should be able to pull it off by hand now; if not, reattach the puller, and finish pulling it off. There is a little "guide pin" in the crankshaft called the Woodruff Key, you'll want to take it out and inspect to see if it shows any wear, or distortions, if so, replace it. Leave it out until you're ready to reinstall the balancer; it's how the balancer lines up with (and holds it in place) crankshaft. This is not a job for a beginner.

just need a good axle puller, I have almost always gotten them out with an old axle and long lug nuts, never had to resort to a torch. Killer slide puller but never needed heat. But have not had to work on a rust car since 78 so do not know it that would be an issue. good luck

you're going to get a special puller if its rusted on, usually if its new or not rusty, you can just remove the gear and hit it with a hammer a few times and it will come right off but if it is rusted then you should get a crankshaft damper puller and hit it with a hammer too. this kind of kind of work need extra care.

Buy a 10 or 12 dollar steering wheel removal tool from a parts store. Kind of like a gear puller, but designed for steering wheel removal. Pulls them right off.
The nut you took off makes the wheel a press fit when tightened, and not easy to get off without the puller.

you need to go to your local auto parts store and see if you rent or borrow a tie rod removal tool. they look like a large fork,you place the tool in between the parts and hit the end of the tool with a large hammer do mallet to pry the parts apart.

Well, a lot has to do with what kind of vehicle we are talking about. For future reference, YEAR, MAKE, MODEL and ENGINE SIZE is required information if you want someone to answer questions for your vehicle....
On MOST vehicles it is not required to loosen or remove the gear box to replace a pitman arm. On some vehicles this IS required because there is not enough room to use a pitman arm puller with the gearbox in place. So, basicly. if you can get the puller in there, the answer to your question is NO and if there is not enough room for the puller the answer would be YES.

The idler arm is totally different. Some vehicles have self-locking nuts where the idler arm connects to the center link. Others have "casltle" nuts and cotte pins. The self-locking nuts can be very difficult to remove and ven harder to get back on. The ones with the castle nuts are easier if the cotter pin comes out easy.

As for how long it takes...again, this is vehicle-specific. Most cars take just under an hour each for the idler arm and pitman arm.

Hello, This is also called a gear puller. The best place to find them is at a tool store like sears, harbor fright Farm & Fleet or Fleet farm. REMOVE CENTER BOLT ON BALANCER TO CRANKSHAFT. USING LARGE THREE WAY GEAR PULLER PLACE WASHER IN BOLT HOLE TO PREVENT DAMAGE PLACE PULLER OVER BALANCER HAND TIGHTEN TO SNUG UP THEN USING RACHET & SOCKET YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO TURN BALANCER OUT & OFF. PUT A SMALL AMOUNT OF OIL ON THREADS OF PULLER WILL HELP.

There is a specially made puller that is used to remove and install these pulleys. It is a multi-part puller that has a two part holding fixture that grabs onto the nose of the pulley and is held there with a metal sleeve that slides over it. Once it is on there is a center bolt and nut that you turn to pull the pressed-in-place pulley off of the shaft. The tool also is used to press the pulley back onto the shaft. Some parts stores will rent you this puller but they aren't very expensive if you have to buy one. These pulleys are on there pretty tight as it's just friction that keeps them in place. MAKE SURE you note how far the original pulley is pressed onto the shaft so you get it pressed back to that same spot when you are done otherwise you can end up with a belt that won't track straight, derails, or is noisy.
