Check the connection to vertical deflection coil; at PCB point for dry solder or any breakage. If found OK, replace the deflection coil. IT IS FAULTY. Type in this key phrase " my service table today " in the search box at the top right of the display window, to get gathered some pages which has the details of practical experiences to the author of that site.

Dear sir,i am having a lg 14''tv set, after i start only horizontal line coming on the screen with clear sound.pl clarify what will the problem, can i repair in house? Thanking you regards shashi

The vertical deflection module on the tv is faulty. Since you didn't know that (even if it's obvious) it's clear that you don't have the required skill to repair it. Take the tv to someone qualified.

Screen Smaller on Orion1934" TV

Hello Falken94,

Your TV is losing what is called vertical deflection. This might be caused by the vertical coupling capacitor going bad, or by the vertical deflection coil on the yoke transformer going bad. In any case there is not enough vertical deflection signal getting for the vertical output section of your TV to the vertical coils on the yoke transformer. I would suggest that you get this looked at by a qualified TV technician, due to the nature of this problem.

I hope this helps,
Thank you,

Sylvania tv

I know your problem for sure. If the fine line you are seeing is horizontal, you have a bad capacitor (or cold solder joint) in the "vertical deflection" circuits. Look for four of the largest wires coming from the picture tube and follow them down to the circuit board. These wires do NOT come out of the BACK of the tube, where most of the wires come from, but rather come sort of from the side of the tube. Two of them will go down to the board near the largest component on your board known as the "flyback transformer". Disregard these two and follow the other two. They will go near either two transistors or a vertical deflection chip. The board will normally be labeled "vertical" or vertical deflection near these transistors. There will be two or more capacitors very near these transistors. Look at them on the underside of the board and look for a bad solder joint. Push on the capacitors left and right while observing the underside of the board and you might be able to see the bad joint. If it is a chip instead of transistors, you could still have a bad capacitor or cold solder joint, but in most cases if it's a chip, then the chip is bad. Since, however, you can tap on the tv and make it work temporarily, this tells me that you probably have two vertical deflection transistors with associated capacitors. If the caps are good and no cold joints, then replace the transistors. This part of your tv is what pulls the electron beam up and down vertically and is thus called the vertical deflection circuits. With no vertical deflection, then the beam just moves left and right and never moves up and down. The picture is still there, but it is contained inside the fine line where of course you cannot see it. The parts in this circuit are not expensive at all. Keever
