We bought this microwave for around 550. a bit over 4 years ago. It stopped heating 2 years ago, and I paid about 200. for GE to fix it. Now it has happened again, and I know I'm in for another 200 dollar repair. It's a 36 inch, so to replace it would cost me about 700. and it would have to be special ordered! It makes me so mad that GE doesn't stand behind their inferior products! I think this microwave should be recalled with the number of complaints there are on it! (Two of my friends have had the same microwave, and it also lasted only a couple years! This is just LAME!) I would not ever want to buy another GE product, based on my experience with this one!
I would bet that either the first time or this time it is/was the magnetron tube, which has a 10 year warranty on the part, you pay for labor. Check and see what they did the last time, but they did have some trouble with the mags in these microwaves. If it was the mag, I'm not sure what area you are from, but $200 is a little high just for labor.
