Go to Display settings and make sure Auto Detect is off.
Then if it's off or after reset go to HDTV settings and select 1920x1080, if there is no picture wait till it comes back and select 1360x768. Just keep going down till you find one that works.
It's a bit of a bummer some TV's out there have no option to disable the overscan. Also a bigger shame that a lot of TV's are sold as 1080p yet only have a 1366x768 native resolution.
However this solution should fix overscan issues if it can't be done through the TV.

Installed comcast cable box to emerson flat screen tv. it is hdmi, 1080. now i don't have a full screen picture.

Try using the wide mode. There are multiple screens you can get such as wide, zoom, full, and wide zoom. Go through these til you get the picture you want.

It's in zoom it didn't do until just recently I have hdmi cables hooked up to it so that isn't the issue please please help

Check out the menu on your TV background setup. There are many settings in there that your owner's manual can show you, like multiple channels on screen, zoom, etc. It would be useful if you don't have an owner's manual, to go to the manufacturer website and put in your model number requesting the owner's manual...download it and study it yourself!

When using PS3 on RCA D52W19 TV, the screen does not fit ( it is zoomed and off-center) in 1080i resolution.

hello!
Have you tried to toggle "format" or "screen size"? On those sets non HD and HD settings could be adjusted separately. Try that, first. If no luck, try similar settings on PS3. I bet, you will be able to match screen format there, as well. To me it looks, like picture formats are mismatched. Also: try to use "component" cables, instead of DVI adapter cable, if nothing works.
good luck,
Alex.

Ok, first make sure you or someone in family didn't hit the "HD Zoom" on your cable remote or whatever kind of remote you have. On ours - Cable- if you hit it once it is in "Normal" picture which on ours has black around edges on a non Hd channel. Then if you hit it again it Zooms once makes pix very large and if you hit button a third time brings it into a wide screen Zoom that fills the Tv screen. If we are viewing HD channels I put it on Normal which will fill the screen and give you the best HD pix. If we are viewing a NON HD channel, then normal will have black on sides, so I hit the Zoom a couple times to fill in the screen. My brother in law had this problem and couldn't figure out why his Sports channel Scores were always half cut off the screen! it was zoomed in too much for that channel. His sports channel was in HD so needed to be on normal instead of zoomed in.
if it is not the Cable remote then this is a second possible cause:

The other thing that happened to me was - we hardly ever use our original TV remote that came with the TV. but one day our picture looked weird and the cable remote didn't adjust it. One of us had hit the "P SIZE" button on the TV remote. this changes your pix from - 4:3 ratio to 16:9 ratio and vice versa. I put clicked that button and on the TV it shows whether it is at 4:3 or 16:9. For newer wide screen TVs you want that set at 16:9 ratio.

All cable company remotes probably are a bit different so check with your company ... to find out where the zoom control is on their remote.

The picture has shrunk - maybe 720P vs 480P?

make sure your hd cable connection from your cable box is going to an hd connection to your tv.[via hdmi, dvi,or componant.] if you have a different hook up such as rca out or coax out, these are not hd connections and you are probably streching out the picture.look at the rear of the tv & cable box and see how the connections are.the hd hook up to the hd input should make the picture the right size only if it's set on the hd input channel.hook up the dvd player to a aux/line in or video/source input and try changing the picture size. you may have to play around with it till you get it the way you want.
hope this helps.
