Refrigerator side is not cooling

For some reason water which turns into ice builds up at the bottom of the freezer side, sometimes so thick that it comes out in huge wedges. Once I defrost the whole refrigerator, the fridge side will start working again. But after about a month, it will stop cooling the fridge side only and the ice build up is at the bottom of the freezer side again. It seems as though the build up of the ice is blocking the air from the cooling the refrigerator side or something like that. Should I just get a new unit or is this something that can be solved without spending a huge amount of money?

You have a defrost drain blocked and a possible defrost problem with your refrigerator. Need you to get me the model number as shown in the photo locations below. Sears has a complete model number system that is confusing I know. Sears made it that way. Not sure why but look around the cold food door while open and look near bottom on the frame just above the kick plate. The number looks like this, (model No. 253.64802400 for example) I will need that number to help you solve the sound alert coming from your refrigerator. Find that number and we can go from there, Thanks, Sea Breeze

Whirlpool gold refrigerator is not cooling ice build up in freezer. Water on bottom of refrigerator.

Too much build of ice in freezer will not cooled the refrigerator side, you need to defrost the fridge. Set it to proper temp setting, just enough to have ice on the freezer and also remove water on the bottom.
Thanks for asking.

Ice build up in bottom of freezer

Check the ice maker. sometimes they get cracked a will leak water into the freezer compartment. Also check the ice maker fill tube for leaks or someone could have spilled something. Although this is tipical of a clogged drain. What happens is when the fridge go into derfost, it will melt all the frost that is on the evaporator, turning it into water. The water drains down to a trough under the evaporator and down a drain hole in the trough ( this trough is behind the evaporator cover ) Removing the melted frost from the freezer. If that drain is clogged, the water cannot leave the freezer. Then when the fridge starts back up ,it will freez the water that was not drained. After repeated defrosting the water will fill this trough and run off into the bottom of the freezer to be frozzen when the fridge starts to cool again.
