Mitsubishi 55" Rear Projection TV - Model WS-55311

Picture blacks out with audio remaining in any channel. Picture may attempt to return after minutes or hours. Sometimes screen has horizontal flashing lines or a faded picture and will then turn to full color with quality resolution for a short time. It then returns to a black screen. Screen remains black when changing to other Input components. TV menu can't be seen. Contact was made with "Dish" thinking the problem was with the satellite receiver. According to Dish, receiver is okay after going through trouble shooting screening. Unplugged both TV and Dish Receiver, and picture returned minutes later on its own. Receiver completed all downloading of update information. Picture was fine for 6 to 8 hours of operation. Original problem has repeated itself with screen currently black with audio. Can you say for certain the problem is with the TV and not the receiver? We live in rural NW Montana...are you aware of any TV Service or Repair businesses that would run the set through trouble screening for repairs?

Oh good, two people. I was getting weary of attempting to slightly change my answer for all the other people who didn't use the "has the same problem" feature. Anyway, the problem both of you have is not too far gone yet, but will get worse if you let it. It's the main capacitors. Maybe not all 21, but probably at least half of the 21 main caps are shot. All should be replaced at any rate. Any shop worth it's salt ought to be able to do this for you for under $400 if you can't do this yourself.

SOURCE: Screen goes black

If you are willing, remove the speaker grill and the rectangular board behind that and look very, very carefully underneath each of the three picture tubes for evidence of coolant drops on the printed circuit boards. These sets have been known to spill a few drops of coolant onto the boards and this causes intermittent problems such as yours. This is my first direction in your case. Let me know.

SOURCE: TV screen goes blank but power stays on

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.

Mitsubishi Rear Projection TV Model WS-55311

Rear projection TVs are dinosaurs. Sell it if you can get anybody to buy it and get an HDtv they're pretty cheap now not to mention thinner, lighter and better for your eyes. Imagine the space you'll save if you mount it on the wall and the cost of electricity. Not trying to be a jerk but it's time to move into the 21st century. The picture is waaaaay better.

Model 55311 Can you pick up digital tv without converter box?

I am thinking that you have a Mitsubishi WS-55311. If this is the case, you will need a converter box to receive digital television signals.

I hope that this helps you resolve your issue.

Replacement of the green lamp(picture tube) in a Mitsubishi 55'' rear projection HD TV. Lamp is out. Other two (red & blue lamps are fine.) How to remove lamp/picture tube? Price and availibilty of...

You can probably purchase a smilar set on Craig's list for $300.00, at least that's what they go for in the Austin Texas area.
A new tube may be too expensive and difficult to replace.
