Go directly to theback of the set via the back RCA connectors(yellow, red, white) or component video, and turn set on Aux. If it works the tuner is Messed!

SOURCE: screen is dimmed and flashing

It's the #1 plaguing issue with flat panel TVs in all brands. If the red light on the TV is blinking when this happens, It should be an error trouble code.
The most common thing to go out on flat panel TVs is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board. The Backlight Board supplies power to the screen in different sections. With a 47" screen, it maybe divided into 10 to 12 sections. But, I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet. I can only make guesses with the symptoms.

You have a few choices:

1. You can try leaving the TV unplugged for 30 minutes so the TV can reset itself.
2. If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.

3. If you have some electronic experience, if you can find and purchase a Service Manual over the internet; It will help you diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you red light blinking codes, circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists.Usually, cost under $20. And most cases the new part cost less than $15.

4. Pay a TV shop to do the repairs. It maybe costly, but get an estimate of how much they will charge. That way you can decide if it worth repairing or replacing the whole TV.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

SOURCE: Philips 47PFL3603D LCD TV -

Hi,
There could be many reasons like IR pins not soldered properly, it is not getting +B supply or IR output signal is blocked, buffer transistor on same board is bad etc etc
Replacement IR Board is available for $6 at Encompass.com so I would suggest to replace complete board instead of IR Sensor.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

I have a 47 Philips flat screen model #47pfl5708/f7 . the screen went dark when I turned it on. It flickers a little but nothing shows up I was wondering if it was the main board or the t-con board?

It is possible, the T-con board does produce the image you see but trying to fix this by guessing is a really bad idea. I would just buy a new TV and avoid the chance you are not correct about defectivethe part.

Philips flat screen tv

Board for the screen has a bad component or a bad solder joint. It will need to go to a repair shop. It may be cheaper to replace the tv.

Inverter board blew out

This is a common problem for this kind of TV.

You just put in a new PCB master and slave board.
Or use a repair-kit and replace the defected parts on the board.

My 47 inch flat screen is less than 8 months old

Have it exchanged for a new one. Either the control board is faulty,or the panel itself has failed. If the panel is defective, then you're gonna get a replacement anyway being that the panels are more expensive in part price than the entire tv set. If its the control board, there is hope for a technician fixing it,but I can't advise a John Smith repair.

Not repond The remote control

Hi, Unfortunatly, Philips had a design flaw from the manufacturer. You will need to have it serviced by a technician, but the replacement part is called an I.R. Board. It should only cost about 2 or 3 dollars, but the labor is the main cost of the repair, which you have a warranty for.
