SOURCE: Cozy wall furnace burner will not light. Pilot

Hi, have done this to many times not to know. I will walk you through this. It is good that the pilot is lit. Go to the stat and remove cover. Don't worry as this is a milivolt unit, no voltage or such a small amount you wont even notice as this is why it is called milivolts.Take a small screw driver to remove the next section which is the thermostat and will expose the sub-base where you will find 2 wires connected to it. You may have 2 or 3 screws to take loose to get to this last section. Anyway, if you have a piece of insulated wire laying around, even old speaker wire will work, take it and touch the wire across the 2 terminals and hold. If the furnace comes on, the thermostat is faulty, and you will need to buy a new one. No power to shut down, and simple to change. Cost about $12.00 dollars. Try and get a heat only milivolt stat as they are much less expensive and will have less problems with them. Go to home DEPOT to get one, or O.C.S.H. will also carry them. Don't let the salesman talk you into buying a programable heat and cool stat, 24 volts as they will work, but cost more and you don't need it!! Look around even if you need to go to a wholesale Refrigeration, Air Conditioning, and Heating parts house. Tell them you need one for a unit in some apts you own, and you will pay cash as you want a cash account. They will only ask what job its for, and just tell them your name. This is not illegal and I wouldnt tell you this if it was!! You will still have to pay taxes but will get a wholesale price for it. I am sure it will fire up when you touch the 2 wires and prove stat is bad. For some reason it is not the stat, follow the 2 wires from the stat down to gas valve and jump the same 2 terminals there also. If it fires up, you will have a problem in the wires from the stat to heater and will need to be replaced. I don't think this is the case. But, on the chance it will not fire after you have done all of the steps I have had you do, then you have a faulty main gas valve(MGV) and will need to replace. This is all easy to repair.I am a 100% sure it will fire up when you jump the 2 wires together, and you will need the stat. Please let me know as I will be waiting for an update! Good Luck,
Shastalaker7
PS When you install the new stat, make sure it is Level.

SOURCE: older heater, late-60's gas in mobile home. When

Check your exhaust pipe for blockage, Make sure pilot light is located just above or below the burner. Make sure that there is a good supply of air going to the burner and that the intake pipe (if it has one) is not restricted. A furnace that old needs to be replaced what ever you find. You could have a cracked heat exchanger.

SOURCE: Noisy pilot light Vulcan Quasar 40

Simply clean out the jet tube with a fine wire, the sound you hear is the gas blowing by the irregular edges, and swirling and not mixing and producing sound waves, (Bit like a flute) So, you need to clean the tube right out, and smooth off the end again, & sorta "Countersink", Flame the end too, at the end.use a very fine needle file, and make it look like new, that will sort your problem out. Then adjust so you have a good gas flow. Also check out it isn't blocked too.

SOURCE: Pilot lights fine, furnace fires up, when it turns off the pilot goes out

need to have at least 3 feet of vent out of the roof, if it is to low the coll air will cold soak down to the pilot and shut it down.

Home furnace comfortmaker blowing cold air

Home owner's manual? Troubleshooting section. Gas or electric?
If gas, pilot light may be out, or other gas controls. Are you sure you have gas supply? Do you have other Gas appliances so you can check? Furnace needs power for controls, fan and thermostat. Are you sure you have electric power to the furnace? Does the thermostat have a fan switch? If so turn it on and see if the fan turns on. If it does not turn on you may have a circut breaker poped. or some other reason power to the furnace is not working.

Ruud 90 plus will not blow hot air

My Ruud is a different model, so this may not work. Remove the cover to the burners. Look on the left side for a small rubber hose going to a metal cylinder. Remove the hose and blow through it to remove any moisture. Replace the hose and see if the burners start up.

We have a Bosch AQ125BNG gas water heater. The pilot goes out in the middle of taking a shower and has to be relit. We have had this problem for a couple of years, but it only happens during winter months...

The problem is excessive down draft or condensation. Air flow is important in combustion appliances. Too much airflow down the chimney can blow the pilot out. This is readily apparent when it gets cold and there is air rushing down the chimney in the winter. There may be an air leak in the room with the water heater. While there should be a combustion air supply that is sufficient, there should not be a place for the air coming down the cold chimney to go. That would eliminate the draft. Another thing is if a furnace is in the same room and does not have enough air to supply the burners. IF it is an older furnace without a combustion exhaust fan or has its own flue, the air being drawn into the furnace burners may be blowing the pilot out. Last but not least is the condensation issue. When cold water enters the tank it can cause water to condensate on the outside and drip down into the burner and put the pilot out.

COLEMAN FURNACE BURNER NOT LIGHTING

There is a thermocouple "wire" that is supposed to be touching the pilot flame.
The thermocouple senses a flame (hot) and allows the heater to operate. If the thermocouple does not sense that the pilot is on, then it will not allow the furnace to operate.
Bend the thermocouple wire (or the pilot tube) so that the pilot flame is touchingg the thermocouple.

That shouls work now.

The air from the fan should not be blowing through the same cxavity that the pilot is in.
If it is, then you may have a leaking furnace whereby carbon monoxide may be seeping into your living quarters.
If the fix above works and the pilot stays on after the heater starts, then there is probably no leak.

Rheem gas furnace pilot lights, but no burners or fan

If the burners do not fully ignite, the sensor will shut the furnace down. The lack of sufficient burner flame is a gas valve or gas pressure problem within the valve.
Replacing the gas valve with the original one may get you going. I surely suggest a professional service company for safety reasons and a thorough inspection. A 20 year old furnace is past it's normal life span.

Blower works but no heat

If in fact you have the above listed furnace, you do not have a pilot but electronic ignition. You will need to remove the front cover on the furnace, tape down the door safety switch and then have someone help you by turning up your thermostat to a very high setting. Watch and listen inside the furnace. There should be some blinking going on at the control board followed by a small blower fan starting up. Then after 10-15 seconds there should be a click followed by an orange glow viewed thru the viewing window to the burner section. In a few seconds the gas valve should click and the burners will ignite. There is a safety switch that will sense flame and then keep the gas going to the burners. If it does not sense it, it will shut it off within 10 seconds. If all is well so far, your blower will turn on in about 90 seconds after flame. There is a diagnostic code chart on the back side of the access door if you get an error code (blinking) on the control board.

Always check little things like air filter, condensate drain and broken or loose wires.
