USB port not reconizing

The time delay depends on the following factors:
  • Host controller hardware
  • Attached hubs
  • Attached devices
  • USB driver versions
  • Support for USB 2.0
  • Additional system hardware or configurations that may change the timing

Method 1: Initiate recognition of the USB device by using Device ManagerTo initiate recognition of the USB device by using Device Manager, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, click Run, type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. The Device Manager window opens.
  2. Click to select your computer as the location for the scan.
  3. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes.

Windows XP recognizes the new device.
  4. Close the Device Manager window.
If this method resolves the issue, you are finished.
Method 2: Restart the computer To initiate recognition of the USB device, first unplug the USB device and restart the computer. Then, wait five to ten seconds before you plug the USB device into the computer or hub. Windows XP recognizes the new device.

If this method does not resolve the issue, you might want to review the articles in the "Similar Problems and Solutions" section, or contact Support. Access the Windows DEVICE MANAGER.
Select the USB hardware.
Click UPDATE DRIVER, and see if Windows Update can download and provide the correct device-driver to enable USB 2.0 support on your USB 2.0 ports.

Or, try: http://www.biostar.com.tw and see if the updated USB device-driver is posted on their "Support

USB problems, 2x not supported. I am told I need

its hardware does not support USB 2, you have to buy an add-on PCI card with USB 2 ports, something like this:

My laptop cannot pick up new usb flash drives but will pick up older ones

How old is your laptop? older laptop will only support USB 1.1 and newer USB devices also will only work with the newer USB 2.0 ports!
Most newer USB 2.0 memory sticks/flash drive are USB1.1 downwards compatibe.
Bottom line: check what USB version is supported by your Laptop and your plug-in device!
Also note that your Laptop BIOS should have LEGACY USB SUPPORT ENABLED and your device, especially if a Media Player, should have its operating MODE set to mimic a FLASH DRIVE (otherwise it will be an unknown device to 'my computer' drive list).

"A HI SPEED USB device plugged into a non HI SPEED USB hub" error message, any idea? every time i plug a usb in to my computer it comes up that this device can perfom faster on a hi-speed usb port

This is not an error it just means that you are plugging in a usb 2.0 device into a usb 1.0 port. The devise will still function normally just not as fast. You could always add a usb 2.0 pci card to your computer.
