Step 1:
To uninstall Ask Toolbar program from your computer,click the Start button, click on Control Panel, then select Uninstall a program. (Add or Remove Programs for Windows XP users).

Depending on what browser you use, the steps to change your preferred search engine will be different. Find your browser settings and look for something that points to which search engine your browser uses. change this from ask.com to google.com

Click the Google logo just besides your Google search bar in Firefox and then click Manage Search Engines...
Then just remove ask.com

you might have to uninstall the ask toolbar
click start control panel uninstall program look for the ask search

For I.E go to tools in the top right and then from the drop down menu go to Internet options. The 3rd section down will have change search settings and from there you can add or remove your search settings. Also It sounds like your defult home page was changed to ask.com so in Internet options at the top you can remove ask.com and replace it with google.com. I would also scan your computer with www.malwarebytes.org

If I understand your question, then you want to change your default search engine from ask.com to google.
Here is what you do. In your search bar, there is a drop down arrow. Click on it, and it shows all the available search engines installed in your browser. To make google your default, simply select it, and that should effect the change.
