SOURCE: dell dimension 4600

check in the bios that it is your new hardrive it is seeing, and not your old one still sitting in thr bios memory, as taking out the battery doesnt always delete the cmos memory.

There shoul be an option in the bios to auto recognise the drive

SOURCE: Dell System DV051 Not working prop. after storm

I believe this is due to Media Direct requiring a 2G hidden partition and entries in the MBR. As I understand it you have to boot from the Media Direct disc first for it to recreate the partition assuming it has been deleted then install your OS. If you do not want the Media Direct then you should be able to use the OS disc recovery console to repair the MBR.

SOURCE: Dell dimension e520 reinstalling the XP Media center

Hello,

connect your hard drive to other computer and then have it clean by scanning with antivirus. and then copy the important files on it to the working computer. after copying the files thats the time to return back the original hardrive to the dell dimension and then reformat and reinstall the system again again. please use original operating from dell or what ever is applicable.

SOURCE: Dell 2350 Won't boot up without cd

Check the jumper on the back of your drive. Chances are that the jumper is either on "slave" or "cable select". Change the jumper to master, and try rebooting.

Yes, the motherboard should support that size drive with no problems. You will have to reinstall windows using the discs that dell sent you originally. Be aware the drivers for dell can be tricky to reinstall.

Switching from vista to XP what do I heve to do?

Perform a backup of all your data to an external hard drive.Do a clean install of XP, erasing Vista.Re-install your programs, and then restore your files from the backup.
It used to be much harder, but now you can do it easily. Also, if you have Vista Professional, I believe you can just put in the XP disk and it will give you options for ez downgrade back to XP pro

Switched a vista hd to a xp hd and windows will not open

You can't do that, it just won't work. A hard drive with XP installed on it will be unrecognizable to a PC with vista already installed on it. You can either backup your XP drive by putting it into a compatible XP computer. Or you can buy on of these, which are handy. This let's you get the data to your new PC thru a USB connection.

Dell Inspiron 6000 - trying to reload, but not

You might need to go into the computer's BIOS and see if it's set to boot from a bootable CD or USB device. If it's set to only boot from the hard drive, it won't even look at other drives. Different computers use different ways to access the BIOS: you might try pressing the F12 key when the boot logo appears. Check your owner's documentation - it should tell you the procedure for your computer.

Hi there i have a dell e520 pc and it is saying reading diskerror

First, make sure you have no disks in the CD or floppy drive... then try loading it.
If that doesn't work, the problem is most likely in your BIOS. Make sure the hard drive is detected in the bios (the bios is accessed by pressing a specific key very shortly after you turn the PC on... usually DEL, F2, F10 or F12). If your hard drive isn't listed, then it's become unsuable and will have to be repair, replaced or simply check the wires to make sure it's all connected).
If the hard drive does show up, then the problem is in your boot sector and you can do one of two things... repair the boot sector through your windows XP installation CD, or if you only have a recovery disk, you can reinstall windows.
