Is it possible to fax over a regular VONAGE line?...

I was wondering because I am trying to maximize savings by getting a single regular Vonage line and using a fax/phone switch so that I can have a single line, but I am not sure if this fax would work with Vonage this way. I do know that this works with regular analogue lines though...

Please let me know....

I thought about that, but doesn't magicjack require a computer onsite? See that is the problem...I have to have a computer running all the time just to fax...This is a stand alone fax machine with no computer hookups.

Thanks...I see what you mean...I do have Hi speed internet and in process of Vonaging and leaving prev provider, but like you said the thought of having to pay hi-speed, and vonage and also deal with no 9-1-1calls and not sure of how house alarm would cope, I think I would just change back to prev provider and cutoff 2nd fax line and keep 1 line and use a switch/selector for phone/fax and this would actually save me more than Vonage would with the exception that...

if it possible to run a switch on a single regular Vonage voice line then I would save even more because I can simply get a switch and get a single Vonage line and pay like 239.99 a year for that one line or 19.99/mo roughly...which goes back to my 1st question...

***IS IT POSSILBE TO RUN A FAX OFF OF A REGULAR VONAGE SINGLE 24.95/mo LINE USING A SWITCH/PHON/FAX SELECTOR?*** Thank you...

...hmmm, really that sounds good. Could you tell me step by step exactly what your set up is and exactly how much you pay for everything so that I can try to replicate what you did? Thank you.

Thanks a lot "GURU" I thought about this before, but I wasn't sure if it would work...appreciate...

Forget Vonage, magic jack is only $20 per year and I see no reason why you couldn't fax with magic jack

You have to have high speed internet for vonage, so you have to pay for high speed internet and pay for vonage. You are better off with paying for a telephone. I assumed you had a computer and high speed internet when you said you were considering vonage

I'm not sure why you would need a switch. I have a stand alone fax machine, and I also run my pc 24/7, and receive faxes through my pc. I use my primary phone for faxing and calls. I also have magic jack for a second line.

When I receive a fax, I simply tell the sender to call me first, and when they fax, I simply let the machine get it

Plug your fax machine into the same phone line as your telephone. Turn off the automatic reception of faxes. When you want to receive a fax, have the sender tell you ahead of time, and then manually receive the fax when it comes

I am trying to send a Fax but keep getting a communications error

Vonage is a DIGITAL phone service. ALL fax machines are analog devices. You need a plain old telephone line.

Unable to send/recieve with my Samsung SF 565P fax

Plug a phone in to fax port, Is there a dial tone there also? can you dial a number and make a call from the fax port? You should be able to with a regular phone. If you can't, try plugging in the fax machine to the other port where your phone is plugged in. try sending a fax.If it works there, then the Vonage device or your service itself is the problem.

No dial tone on headset 2

If you have a regular phone, then connect it directly to the Vonage phone router. Be sure and connect to the correct port on the router (mine has 2 ports, and I use both, but a single line subscriber would only hook to Line 1).
See if you get a dial tone with the standard phone hooked up (we are testing that the Vonage is good.first, then we'll deal with the Uniden phone.). If not, what do the light's indicate on the Vonage router? Have you subscribed to Vonage? Do you have a cable between your router and the Vonage router?

Reply back back what you find and I can help you more.

Unable to send or receive fax over vonage/dsl

I also have vonage and this fax macine - the incoming fax was going to vonage answering machine.

I went to setup (that little button above and to the right of the OK button to "basic fax setup" and changed my rings to answer from 5 to 2. This will work for me, because I only set it to auto answer when I know a fax is inbound - you might want to adjust so you can aswwer a call if you do not have a dedicated fax line.

Good luck

Can't Send or Receive Faxes from MFC-7820 N

You may not need a separate fax line from Vonage. If you don't need a dedicated fax line, you can try changing the "Bandwidth Saver" settings on your Vonage voice line from your account on the Vonage website. Perform the following:

1. Login to your Vonage account online and click the "Features" tab.
2. Scroll down to the "Bandwidth Saver" link and click on the "Configure" button.
3. You will see a scrollbar with 3 settings: 30kbps, 50kbps and 90kbps

NOTE: My "Saver" was set to 90kbps (Highest Sound Quality) by default.

4. Click on 30kbps (Normal) and click "Submit".
5. Wait about an hour before testing as it could take that long for the change to take effect.
6. Send a test fax to the HP fax test service at 1-888-hpfaxme (1-888-473-2963).

NOTE: This is a GREAT service provided by HP. If your fax goes through correctly, you will receive a return fax within five minutes.

We upgraded to Verizon FiOS and never thought the increased upload speed (4mbps) would present an issue sending faxes. WRONG. We never had fax issues with DSL, Comcast or even Broadstripe VOIP service but for some reason Vonage + FiOS = no fax. That is until we set our Vonage VOIP sound quality to "Normal". Our phone voice quality has been much more reliable since throttling back. This sentiment has also been shared by other Vonage users who have experienced echoing and noise when utilizing the higher quality settings.

Your phone coversations may not have FM quality sound but they will have AM quality and usually that is just fine.

If your fax machine has a Telephone Answering Device (TAD) setting, you can share your voice line with your fax machine and be able to receive faxes and voice messages. Hopefully this will work for you.

Vonage and faxes

Only real solution I know would be to get rid of Vonage. All experiences with Vonage has left a bad taste in my mouth. Regardless of your broadband speed, Vonage uses open internet and is subject to network problems. Fax's require Real-Time communication/transmission control, which is, thus far, not available with Vonage.
