I'm trying to use the num lock to input numbers, but the function doesn't work unless I have num lock activated and also have the fn key constantly pressed. How can I fix this problem? Once I activate num lock I should be able to type numbers without holding the fn key, but I can not.

On some models, pressing Fn and F4 key will disable/enable Num lock on latitude.

On some other Dell laptops, a BIOS setup menu selection must be made when turning on the laptop to enable it to work.

SOURCE: laptop keyboard is not working correctly

Accoring to the problem you have mentioned i am sure the keys are not connected properly. The tab key is connected on the Caps lock key. Moreover make sure you press the fn key to check for any changes as it is the key which helps you toggle in Laptop

SOURCE: number lock won't turn on

When enabled, this allows the user to type numbers by pressing the keys on the number pad, rather than having them act as up, down, left, right, page up, end, and so forth.
in bios is where you can set number lock to enable at start up
so restart and enter set up(bios) and change it to lock numbers at start up
if you need more help just let me know

SOURCE: keyboard stuck on fn

I found this on another site, and it worked on my Vostro 1510:

Try pressing shift + numlock (Scrolllock in blue) to toggle the Fn feature.

Normal numlock comes on, so press it again by itself to turn that off.

Unlock number lock

On a laptop, the "Num Lock" key has a function slightly different than the one it performs on full-d desktop keyboards. Activating "Num Lock" on a laptop usually transforms a set of central keys, including many letters, into number keys, allowing typists used to entering numbers on a keypad to type efficiently. While on desktop keyboards "Num Lock" usually has a dedicated key, on laptops it often shares a key with another function on MacBooks, for example, it shares the "F6" key and you must hold down the "Shift" or "Fn" key to activate it.

Look for the "Num Lock" key on your laptop's keyboard. This is usually near the top of the keyboard. If the key says nothing on it except "Num Lock" if that's the only function the key performs you can just press it to activate the lock; a light will probably go on somewhere to indicate that "Num Lock" is on. If the key has multiple functions, you'll have to hold down a different key while pressing it. Hold down "Shift" and press "Num Lock" if the writing saying "Num Lock" appears above some other writing on the key, the way various symbols appear above the numbers on the keyboard's number row. Hold down "Fn" and press "Num Lock" if the writing saying "Num Lock" appears in a different color often light blue that's shared by the "Fn" key.

My numeral key are not working[123456789 right side of key bord]

Step 1:
On some laptops it may be difficult to locate and activate the "Num Lock" key. Depending on the laptop, it may be hidden as a function where you have to press two keys. Most of the time, a laptop keyboard is just like a full desktop computer keyboard and it has a "Num Lock" key on it. Most people do not realize the "Num Lock" key is on their laptop keyboard because it barely serves a purpose without a full numeric keypad.

Press the "Num Lock" key on the laptop at the top, right of the keyboard. Press the "Num Lock" key and the "Fn" key simultaneously if the above does not work. Press "Fn" and "F11" simultaneously on the keyboard to activate the "Num Lock" function. Some laptops, like Toshiba, do have a "Num Lock" key. The shortcut for G3 Mac laptops it is "F5," and on G4 Mac laptops it is "F6."

I have an aspire 5532 num lock will not activate. I have tried FN and num lock together. The orientation operation works but the numerals will not show. The num lock is labeled white with no FN blue...

If the word NumLk (or NumLock) is written is white, then you will only need to press Num Lock key once to activate Num Lock

Usually software settings do not affect Num Lock or Caps Lock keys and should always work, unless there is a problem with that specific key.

I have a Compaq Presario CQ60 laptop and was told that I had my scroll lock activated because the numbers on my number pad only half work. The 0, ., 4, 5, 6, /, *, - all work. The 1, 2, 3, enter, 7, 8,...

Find 'fn' key (this is short for function) then find 'num lock' key in your case it must be another key with and extra label with the same font color as 'fn', this means this key behaves differently when pressed with 'fn'. When you have located both key press fn+num lock a led indicating that numeric lock is activated should go off and you're done.

Num lock activated and can't turn it off

One of your Function keys (F11, F12, etc., usually F11) will also have the NumLock function on them. So when you hold Fn and press F11, it will toggle the Number Lock. Try holding Fn and press F11, this should turn it off (and back on should you ever want to use it again). Your keyboard should be labeled with the various functions keys have when Fn is pressed, you may have to look for the one that reads NumLk.

Dell Laptop - Keyboard "Fn" is causing problems!

I think it is not the Fn key but the NumLock that is activated. Look for the key labeled NumLk , this is the number lock. Also check if the light on the notbook with a number (usually number 1) is on. If it is on, yo must deactivate the numlock by pressing it again. It works in toggle mode. Sometimes the numlock is activated together with the shift key, sometimes with the function key.
