All of a sudden, we have no sound on Polaroid TLA-01911C TV. We have checked connections, powered off and un-plugged for a few days. Blown out interior of TV with hair dryer. Now if remote has sound all way up to 100, we can hear a tiny bit of sound. We want to know what to do to get sound back with remote on normal level. Many thanks - oneofeachmom
Audio amp may be blown. A cable may be bad.
What are you connected to?
Testimonial: "Mike M, we are connected to Time Warner Cable. We have GREAT picture but lack sound. Any ideas?"
Aside from the obvious, that you have not got the mute function pressed on either your cable remote or your tv remote...How are you connecting your cable box to the tv? Do you understand that giving all the information to begin with is much better than me having to drag it out of in a series of questions?
Every connection and every device being used needs to be known. Makes, models, everything.
Okay, TV is connected to a Time Warner Cable - NO BOX, and plugged into electrical outlet. Cable was just here and replaced cable, put on noise filter to reduce feedback on our NON-box tvs. None of this worked. If you need make of actual cable...let me know.
There are no devices attached to tv, except for TWC cable.
OK. Sorry this is taking so long. Do you have a smaller tv you can connect to the TW outlet? This would prove whether it is the TV or not. Or, do you have rabbit ears to try on the Polaroid TV? There are settings on the TV that select sound input and output. Have you checked them? The TV remote should have a menu for these settings.
This is our smallest tv. No luck on rabbit ears either. We've gone through every setting on menu. Even selected close caption, then turned it off. When tv has been off for awhile, we'll hear staticky sounds like sound is trying to come back. Other times sound is perfectly clear, but can only hear tiny bit when sound level is on 100.
Reviewed online manual but alas...no troubleshooting section. Want to gain access to interior of tv...but wouldn't know what to do once inside exposed.
Take it to shop or call a repair service. Audio amp is blown. Is there a headphone jack to try? Or external speaker connections?

SOURCE: how to disassemble polaroid TLA-01911C lcd tv
1) Take the foot off the stand and with a long philips screwdriver remove the single screw that is at the top of the leg (inside leg). Then with the tv facing down lift straight up on the leg.
2) remove the two screws comming from the back of the tv along the bottom edge.
3) With the tv face down on a soft surface ( towel, bedspread, ect).
4) Be carefull with this step it this tv gave me some difficulty and I am experianced with this proceedure. Too much pressure or forcing it too hard will break your case. The back of the tv has a lip which inserts into the face. The face has tabs that lock into slots in the lip of the back. Carefully pry between the face and back pannel (I used my thumbnail and a 1" plastic putty knife.) and slide along the seam until the locking tabs pop loose. Continue sliding your instrument along the seam until all tabs are loose.
5) The back of the tv lifts off of the face leaving all electronics in the face of the tv.
That gets you into the tv. what you do from there is up to you, Good luck;)

Can you see a very faint image? the backlight may be dead. otherwise it could be a number of things.
SOURCE: Polaroid TLA-01911C TV - I seem to have the same
I had the same problem - replaced the capacitors which cleaned up the signal. Then I hear a "buzzing" from the CCFL lamps. Turns out the solder job on the CCFL's themselves was shoddy and corroded. No good CCFL Power trips the inverter and turns the lamps off. Resoldering the wire to the end of the CCFL's fixed the problem permanently.

To add to this solution above - I had the capacitor replacement and there was still an issue. Turns out the solder connection to the lamps themselves was very very poor causing an electrical arc (the scratching noises people are hearing) - then the inverter shuts the lamps down as it should. Fix lights!
