I am unable to download the computer voice. I have tried several times and when I check it on the road it still won`t say the street names. I have a tom tom One Xl S. I can see it downloading onto my tom tom but when I check it again on a short drive it still doesn`t say the street names. I still have the lady just saying turn right then left. It won`t say the street names.

It may have switched voices. Some of the voices are basic and do not say the street names.

• Press TOOLS (The spanner icon in the bottom right corner of the screen which shows WHERE TO and VIEW MAP)
• Pres SETTINGS
• Press LANGUAGE
• Press VOICE and select an English speaking voice that ends with the letters TTS (TTS stands for text to speech)

If you don't have one on your satnav you can download them. Download and install, to your computer, the latest version of WEBUPDATER from http://www8.garmin.com/support/collection.jsp?product=999-99999-27
Connect your satnav to your computer and run the WEBUPDATER program
It will search for updates and you should install any it finds. Afterwards it will find optional updates including voices. Tick the ones you want and download them to your satnav. When you have disconnected your satnav from your computer you'll need to select a voice as described in the first paragraph above

Have you selected an electronic voice? If you have a "standard" voice or have used a "celebrity" download voice, it won't give computed responses for street names.
Go to voices, change voice and try a digital/electronic voice. If not installed, use TomTom home to download an electronic voice.

you need to choose a computer voice instead of a human voice. go to change preference->voice...
in the voice selection menu, it will tell you this voice is computer male or human female, make sure you pick a computer one, then it will read the street name

As far as I can tell the Tom tom 130S only speaks the street names when you use the computer voice (female, Amanda) and not any of the other voices.

Yes Nickarino is right.
When I switched on my new tom tom it gave me that option to speak street names and it vanished after selected a different voice. I checked all manuals and web references in Tom Tom - none of them list it.
Like Nick said - what you need to do is swtich the voice type to SAMANTHA and it will show the option "Read Street Names Loudly". I jumped on it and said yes ..!!!

2-change voice

than you need to select female voice but it might be female computer voice! Because only female computer voice can speak street names.

These steps are for my TomTom One (2008) model.

1. Once you have turned on your TomTom tap the screen.
2. Tap 'Change preferences'
3. Tap the arrow to get to page 2 of Preferences
4. Tap 'Change voice'
5. Tap arrows until you get a computer voice - I chose Samantha.
6. Tap the 'Select' button to the right of the voice picture.
7. This screen is labelled 'Speech preferences' and the first one is 'Read aloud street names'
8. Tap the box to the right to select this preference.

Apparently only Samantha can speak street names. Mine didn't come with it, but when I updated my unit by connecting it to the computer at the tomtom site, Samantha was automatically downloaded. I chose her voice and it works.

I had the same problem with the TomTom One. What you need to do is this:
When you select a voice preference you have to use a "computer" voice as it seems the "human" voice cannot pronounce the street names. I don't know if your model has the same choices but mine is set to "Samantha, English US"
