the rubber wheel will be cracked and slip when its bad only 3 bolts to change it just stand it up on the rear bars and change it thats what there there for
there are small metal beads on the cable near the pedal you move to the other side of the pedal if the friction wheel is warn you will need to replace it only 3 nuts hold it on just flip the mower up on the rear bar and take it off no fancy tools needed
the drive system on that mower is a rubber friction wheel after time the rubber become brittle and falls apart and also wears it you tighten the vent on the fuel cap and stand it up on the rear bars you can see it it rides on a alum wheel held in by 3 or 4 bolts easy to change if it has electric start you need to remove the battery if you leave it up on it back for more the 30min
first check the friction wheel that drives the rear axle then look at the cable adjustment you may need to move the small rings around the pedal if all that looks good loosen the pulley assem away from the engine closer to the axle
Usually the drive disc . Look under mower at rear, you will see a wheel with rubber ring on outside diameter. I think, it is four small bolts holding it on. Take off and replace, will usually solve problem.
Usually just replacing the drive wheel will fix the problem. There are two allen head set screws on the disc mounted on the engine shaft visable through the hole in the rear of the mower. However, don't expect when you loosen them that the disc will move up or down freely. I've only ever move one by taking the engine off. I'd try replacing the rubber drive wheel first.
It is time to replace the driven wheel. When you flip the mower up on the back end (after closing the vent on the top of the fuel cap), the driven wheel is the disc that has rubber on the outer edge that rides on the silvery disc that comes off the end of the motor. The last time I bought one was about 7 years ago, at which time it cost me about $7.85. I would expect it to be around $11-12 these days.
