Dishwasher making strange noise

My Dishwasher AEG 40740 makes some strange noise. After I close the door and dishwasher starts working everything is OK and all I can hear is water hitting the dishes. After about 20 seconds this noise starts like scratching or end of water going down the drain. This happens every 5 seconds. If I open and close the door everything is fine for 20-30 seconds and then starts again. Please help.

SOURCE: Dishwasher not spraying

It could be a motor or a pump issue. The dishwasher has a motor that attached to a pump which forces the water up into the sprayer arms and during the drain cycle, it pushes the water out of the dishwasher. The motor (and pump) located beneath the dishwasher. Good luck!

SOURCE: Diswasher motor making noise during wash cycle

It could be the impeller on the motor. The impeller fits over the shaft of the motor and might have split/broken up. That funny noise is probably the shaft spinning inside the damage impeller. Fortunately the impeler is fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. I believe there are one or two parts/covers to remove that are held in by a roughly half dozen torx screws.

SOURCE: water not going in

This is a little late for the OP. But, I had the same problem over Thanksgiving of 2008. I searched online and saw that other people had the same problem, but there were no solutions posted. So, I paid $130 for a service tech to come fix the problem - maybe this will save you some time and money.

The solution was simple...pour boiling water (I boiled about a half gallon of water in a cooking pot) straight into the pump where the water sprays out of. You don't have to pull your dishwasher out and no tools are needed. Just open the door, pull out the lower roller tray, remove the bottom spray fin (just pull straight up), and pour the boiling water straight into the hole where the bottom spray fin was attached to. Next, put everything back in place, push the Power switch on, select a wash mode, and close the door. The dishwasher should start spraying water inside as usual.

The service tech told me that there are only two pumps in this dishwasher...one to pump the water in (the one that had the problem) and one to pump the water out. When you don't use the dishwasher frequently, the seal in the wash pump seizes up (sticks together). You can hear the motor humming, but the pump isn't able to send the water up into the spray fins. By pouring boiling water into the pump, it helps to break that stickiness and allows the pump to start sending water up into the spray fins. The solution is to run your dishwasher at least once a week. Even if you don't have much to wash, run a rinse cycle to let all the parts move and stay loose.

One other tip the tech told me is to pour a cup of white vinegar into the pump when you go away on vacation and the dishwasher won't be used for a week or more. This should keep the seals from sticking together. I haven't tried this yet.

Hope this helps.

SOURCE: Whirlpool Gold Dishwasher makes a very loud noise when running

Hi you probably have something in the sump drain assembly (this is a common problem with Nautilus DW's) there's a screen on the right side of the spray arm with 2 screws remove them and take screen off use your fingers to probe the cavity be careful it could be glass.

If it does not correct the problem

!.You may have an electric pump . and it could be pump without water . so i would say a bad pump....but since you say everything is draining well...then I doubt the later...HOWEVER...you did say it ran forever...which is absolutely typical of something in the sump...drain area...which will make the drain cycle run because it believes something to be in the drain.....there is also a check valve...that the drain hose attaches to...(it comes right off of the motor assembly) when you take the hose off there is a check valve that screws into the hose or the motor assembly...(it could have debris in the hose that is not being drained all the way out and it is finding it's way back to the check valve) ...shop-vac the drain line...or the valve is screwed into the motor assembly where the hose disconnects...and there may be something stuck in the valve...unscrew it and check that the valve is in good shape...and free of debris......reassemble...and run through cycle....if you need any of these parts...or any specific instructions on replacement of these parts...here is a great site...Quality for less and quick delivery.

I hope this helps...I believe it will....Good luck and good day....thank you for your rating my effort....The Fang.

My samsung dishwasher has a constant buzz that occurs during start up and lasts through all of the cycles. I saw where there is an electrical noise filter and did not know if that could be the cause.

No a noise filter is a different kettle of fish. That stops electrical interference noise from affecting your television, radios and electrical devices.

The most likely source of the hum is the start capacitor on the motor, or the motor itself.

This has a different idea

Humming or Grinding If your Samsung dishwasher makes noise when starting that sounds like a low hum, it's part of normal function. The motor makes this sound as it operates throughout the wash cycle. However, a dishwasher making loud humming noise or grinding sounds could mean that debris is caught in the drain pump.

This says the drain pump, but the drain pump only runs to empty out so it wouldn't do it all the time.

Are error codes standard for the same brand/ different models ? Are they standard between brands ? I have a AEG dishwasher model favorit 50879 sensorlogic that gives an error code.

Some companies share generic codes like 'Lw', for low water level or 'DL' for Door Lock. This might help, there are other sites when Googling 'make model error codes'.

AEG 40850 - pump noise and running for long time, eventually showing error 20

There is a problem with drainage. Check the drain line connected to the disposal or peatrap. Make sure it is not plugged. Otherwise you can disconnect the drain line and put a wet vac on it to try to clear the hose

I have an AEG F55002ViOP dishwasher. It's making a strange grinding sound and showing error code 30. Can anyone advise how to solve this please.

Error "i30" means that water remains in base because leakage or overflow. In this case, in order to prevent flooding, drain pump running continuously.
When we talk about AEG dishwasher, drain pump works even the power is turned off (must be connected to the wall outlet, otherwise anti-flooding system will not work).
The noise what you heard during operation indicates that something is blocking the drain pump.
Remedy: you should first remove the water from the bottom of the dishwasher and determine leakage then check why the drain pump makes noise.

If you work around the dishwasher, you always take care that appliance must be disconnected from the power supply.

Good luck.

Favorit 40010 vi dishwasher the machine door opens during the wash except on eco 50 wash

Strange it remains closed on one stage? Usually a door that opens by itself is due to misalignment, and then gain water will leak onto the floor. If someone banged into the side of the door and moved the washer a slight bit, the locking tab under the work counter may not be in a positive position. If the tab is bent slightly up, the door may barely make contact and lock when in operation. A simple movement of the washer could pop the door open. Other than that, any electrical dysfunction would require a professional servicemans attention.

I don't have the answer - but mine has been doing this too. There's now a metalic/electical smell that has me worried so I've resorted to a basin of water and fairy liquid! Did you solve your problem?
