SOURCE: During start up, screen goes grey

Most likely the machine is looking for drivers for devices. If you are connected the internet, it is probably searching there until it times out. If you still have your motherboard installation disk, put it in the drive and boot from there. This should install any missing drivers. Press F12 during bootup to acess boot options.

SOURCE: i dropped my laptop, it

When you dropped your latop especially when it was still on, this is a huge... Luckily it was only your drive, see the harddrive spins at a very very high RPM, and it able to absorb some shock, but dropping it, could of went beyond the shock boundary and caused one of the cylinder head or the needle to be loose or broken or could even be scratched. In this case, you would have a bad hard drive and need to replace it. See if you can still save some files, that you mights want.... If not, your in a tought situation and might need to send the hard drive to a specialist to see if they can recover the files... It would be a heft fee.... if not, buy a need harddrive.

Toshiba laptop restarting

The loop on your Toshiba Satellite laptop refers to the computer not booting properly.

During the loop, the computer will try to boot the Windows operating system and keep restarting over and over again.

This is not a hardware issue with your Toshiba Satellite A106.

The issue resides in the startup files on your computer's hard drive.

You can fix this by running a repair tool that comes with your Windows operating system.

This repair tool will fix your startup disk and allow you to get your computer back up and running.

Insert your Windows 7 installation disc into your computer's optical drive.

Start your computer and wait for it to boot from the install disc.

Choose your language from the menu and then click the "Next" button.

Click "Repair your computer" from the menu.

Choose the operating system you are using and then click the "Next" button.

Click on the "Disable Automatic Restart On System Failure" button to disable the startup loop.

Click the "Startup Repair" tool from the menu and wait for the computer to fix your startup disk.

Wait for the computer to finish repairing your startup disk and then allow it to restart automatically.

Wait for the computer to boot correctly to your login screen.

Hope this helps

Asus K53E will only load Startup repair screen, run this but nothing happens

When startup repair finishes even if it says it could not fix the problem try rebooting and select to run windows if it gives you that option.

Maybe you need to run the Check Disk Utility.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

When I turn on my Dell Inspiron Mini 1012 N450, it keeps showing that it's running the start up repair. It won't let me cancel it, so I let it run. It said it was now repairing any problems and it...

Startup issues are normally caused by recently installed software that has somehow corrupted critical files, or fault of the hard disk. In the case of the former, you may use startup repair to roll back to a restore point from before the problem occurred. In the case of the latter, you may run "chkdsk c: /f" from the command prompt (available after entering recovery). This will attempt to find and repair corrupt sectors of the disk.

Non-system disk or disk error Replace and strike any key when ready

Bad hard drive. The PC can not find an operating system. (e.g. Windows)
If you are lucky, you may be able to recover it by repairing the MBR or Master Boot Record.

If you have Windows NT / 2000 / XP, you can boot from startup floppy disks or CD-ROM, choose repair option during setup, and run Recovery Console. When you are logged on, you can run FIXMBR command to fix MBR.

Or just run Repair Windows from the Windows CD/DVD..

If you boot up on the CD and the hard drive is not recognized then its likely dead and will need to be replaced.
