Help! carburetor pulse oiler on homelite xl chainsaw ut-10694-a

This saw uses the carburetor to pressurize the oil tank. It is not the oiling system on the super 2 which uses a diaphragm on the carb. The oil tube comes from the carb directly and goes into the oil tank to pressurize it, then the oil flows out of the tank and to the adjustable oil valve or if you bypass the adjustable oil valve it would go directly to the chain bar inlet/outlet tube. The carb doesn't seem to be pressurizing the oil tank. When I take the tube off of the carb and blow into the tube the oil comes out at the chain bar where it's suppose to. When I put the tube back on the carb and start the engine the oil goes back up the tube away from the chain bar outlet. Any help on this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ron

SOURCE: Homelite XL, UT 10618-A, 14

This probably is a worn out automatic oiling diaphragm and plunger assembly. If it is like my Super 2, it is right behind the clutch and sprocket. I had to take the sprocket off to get to the little plate held by three small screws. You probably have to remove the plastic covers first to see this stuff. After removing the screws, the diaphragm and plunger should peel off either the plate or the engine housing. Now the fun starts. I found a parts supplier that listed a picture of the little demon and the price was about seven dollars. But I didn't bookmark the site and now I can't find it again. If all this info matches your saw, and you find a parts supplier, please post it. Good Luck!

SOURCE: old homelite XL chainsaw pumping bar oil into engine while runnin

Check that the oiler hole and the hole in the bar that it pumps into aren't clogged. The sawdust running under the chain and be deposited in the oiler hole in the bar until it plugs it solid. That will keep the oil from havintg a place to go and build up pressure.

Oil is not going to the chain, it is going to the cylinder or spark plugs smoke is coming out of the cylinder

This only occurs when the oil pump is driven by, or the oil tank is pressurized by, an impulse line. Either the oil pump is defective or a duck valve has failed. With what you give us we can isolate it no further. Provide a model number that leads to a UT- number or preferably the UT-number itself and we can be of more help. You can try to find your saw and oiler parts here:
Homelite/Ryobi.com (authorized parts supplier)
https://www.gardnerinc.com/recons/disclaimer-lg.php - Agree; Choose “Product Line”; “Select OEM” & “Select Catalog” both to “Homelite Consumer Products”. A drop down list appears; self explanatory from here.
The numbers Homelite & Ryobi use do not match the numbers everyone posts. A careful inspection of your saw should find something that matches.

I have a homelite xl, UT# 10655- the chain oil seems to be leaking and coming out of the exhaust and continues to leak after shutting off the chainsaw. Any ideas on the possible cause?

Your saw is listed as an "XL Chain Saw UT-10655" here:
Homelite/Ryobi.com (authorized parts supplier)
https://www.gardnerinc.com/recons/disclaimer-lg.php - Agree; Choose “Product Line”; “Select OEM” & “Select Catalog” both to “Homelite Consumer Products”. A drop down list appears; self explanatory from here.

See the "Engine Internals" print. The oiler appears to above the clutch and driven by a pressurized tank. Venting the tank (opening the oil cap) may help help with weeping but only emptying the tank will stop it.

If no oil from engine oiler hole I suspect a failed hose or connection. Use the IPL to inspect and repair as needed.

Oil System Plugged.
  1. Remove the clutch cover, bar, and chain, clean the bar groove, any holes and passages on the rear of the bar (both sides, consider rotating the bar), if equipped with a sprocket nose ensure it rotates easily at least one complete revolution. Clean the saw oiler hole and channel. Insert a blunted, hooked piece of wire through the oil filler hole and pull the hose in the oil tank out. Pay attention to the screen or filter on the free end (clean or replace, difficult to determine serviceability). Start the saw and see if it oils when revved up (oozes down side of saw). If yes reassemble your saw. If no, continue with 2.
  2. Work your way through the linkage (use IPL to identify components and locations) cleaning and replacing any defective parts as you go. Carefully check the hoses for cracks especially at bends and connections. Please take extensive notes & some digital pictures will help during reassembly.

Working on homelite 20 power stroke saw, installed carb kit & checked complete ignition system & it still floods no matter what you do. also it way over oils the bar. is there a adjustment for that...

Don't know if this is your problem but I experienced it a lot using Homelites. The gas tank sits directly over the cylinder head. As you spill mixed gas with oil over time it coats the cylinderhead with oil and it collects a lot of sawdust and as the saw gets more coated with this mixture it makes it a lot hotter and it doesn't cool down as well. Cleaning the saw will help it cool better and lower the amount of heat. Here in lies the problem. The gas tank cap has a vent in it. This vent over time becomes plugged a lot. As the excess heat from the motor heats up the gas in the tank, it can get hot enough to boil. If the vent is plugged even a little bit it will build up pressure in the tank and force it into the carburetor thus flooding it. I need more model information to find out about the oiler adjustment. If there is one it's usually where the oil comes out of saw and enters the bar.
