How do you replace the hour meter in a caterpilar 420D Backhoe?

most hour meter have a 2 wire system connection at the back with either a plug on or nut on bolt connectors
they are held in place by a large "U" shaped bar that goes up from the back of the gauge and presses against the dash or mounting panel
remove the nuts holding the bracket and the gauge comes out the front of the dash or panel
if space to the back of the gauge is limited you may have to remove the dash first

Front end clunks when my 420d backhoe is in 4 wheel drive

first thing is check the front axle lube, check for proper oil level, and that there is not metal on the drain plug, next check the u joints for play, with the tractor in gear brake ON, have someone shift from forward to reverse, watch the u joints they should be tight with no play, check both sides, grease if it's not too late.

No starter engagment on cat 420d bachoe no power

From what I have discovered with my own Cat 426 it is likely the forward reverse selector. It has electronics and contacts that will NOT allow the starter to receive any power if the contacts are open as there are safety interlocks that will not allow the machine to start.
